WASHINGTON (AP) -- The District of Columbia is becoming the first U.S. jurisdiction to allow Internet gambling, moving ahead of traditional gaming meccas like New Jersey and Nevada in a bid to bring in millions of dollars in extra revenue.

Permitting the online games was part of the 2011 budget and a 30-day period for Congress to object expired last week, said D.C. Councilman Michael A. Brown, who authored the provision.

Hey, What’s Nevada got that we (DC residents) don’t have?

We got Harry Reid!

We are getting Gambling!

We’ve had Legalized Prostitution for ages! (Just ask P.J. O’Rourke - “Parliament of Whores”)

Seeing as this is DC and all, how are they going to pay off; in tax credits or food stamps?

“Crack.

I can see the government re-naming the WIC program to stand for “Winnings In Crack”. Could be a whole new bureaucracy

Yeah, but leave it to Eddie Rendell to put state sponsored casino's everywhere there are at least 500k citizens.

Yet no one is questioning that fact.

Since they decided to not “humiliate” the welfare leeches by giving them debit cards instead of food stamps, you can’t imagine what they buy with them.
[and small “neighborhood” stores don’t mind fudging the receipts so they can be used for booze]

I’m standing in WalMart with $100 worth of stuff _that fits in one small bag_ [none of it “luxury items”], and there are obviously well-fed welfare queens in front of me with a literal _train of carts_ piled full of food items we can’t even think of splurging on.

Then, they go out and put all those goodies into the back of their Lexus SUV and drive a 1/2 mile back to the McMansions that are now Section 8 homes.

I will NEVER have a home with a 2 story foyer that features a leaded glass chandelier shining brightly through an 8 foot tall arched double window and oaken doors on property they will *never* scrape and scrimp to pay over-valued taxes on....but they do.

Does that annoy me?

Oh, hell yeah.

WIC vouchers get traded cut-rate for “no restrictions” cash.

“It’s for the children”.
