(Reuters) - French special forces have detained Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo and handed him to leaders of the rebel opposition, after French tanks forced their way into his residence, a Gbagbo adviser in France said.

Will we ever stop being in the news?
Yes, that is interesting. Thanks
Ouattara himself was twice barred from running in previous [presidential] polls because his father is from Burkina Faso.
Just sayin'.
;-)
You notice France in the lead again as the African nations battle their leaderships. IMO this is all about backroom deals for how the International Leaders will and are lining up the worlds nations as blocks for trade/commerce and resources...all eventually under a world governance.
It’s no secret that the Muslim nations have gained enormous power and wealth so must be an active participant now in how the world will operate within the guidlines that will be established. Thus world leaders are “joining” in upsurping who they will to establish those who can negotiate the deals ahead....so of course there will be Muslim leaders in the ME countries as their block is formed...despite the concerns of what this means in the long run.
If you view the various African leaders as children on a playground fighting each other in various locations on the ground.....that is pretty much how international Leaders see the fighting among those in the African nations. How to break up the fights and establish stability on the grounds regardless of who the people want in office....They want people who have the ability to co-operate on an international level, not concerned with the popularity of what the people want, though they might give the apperance of.
If we think they are sincerely concerned about the deaths of any we are fooling ourselves. What matters are the resources and what nations can contribute what worldwide...that’s pretty much the it.
This will be a new precedent. UN forces will now decide elections.
Here are two interesting comments from ZeroHedge on the IC situation and the French involvement.
and
WHY?
More support from “developed” nations for the Religion of Peace.
The more I read about this, the more I agree with you that we’re being sold a pig in a poke. I don’t trust the French and now that I’ve seen the IMF tied into this mess, I’m really interested in seeing how this all shakes out.
I don’t know about that. France just had their burqa ban go into effect today. There’s already been arrests of veiled women.
There are also thousands of French folk living there, and many more visiting it for the beaches. Have to protect them. Been there. Beautiful.
The French, unlike us and the Brits, realized that colonialism ended about 250 years too early. They also have a different kind of racism than we do. If you wear pants and speak decent French, the frogs are happy to accept you as a brother ... and a brother-in-law, too.
Good questions.
So's Viet Nam. I'll expect neoncon wannabe' Sarkozy to march in there any day to enforce fair elections. Same with our armchair tough guys. You just know that's what Joe Lieberman and Bill Kristol talk about over beers at the VFW. /sarc
The Burka ban has goto be a tough one for religious beliefs of multiculturalism
After WWII, an important faction in Washington, DC described Ho Chi Minh as "Vietnam's George Washington," so our help to the Frog was half-hearted at best.
Look about. The French colonies that were smart enough to remain French Colonies do one hell of a lot better than those benighted savages who abandoned la culture française to jump prematurely on the post-colonial bandwagon! Besides, ain't no natives nowhere nohow ever gonna top the French National Anthem and the cooking. And have you seen the cut of their loincloths? Execrable! Absolument épouvante!
From the SHUDDAWUDDACUDDA dept: (1) We should have helped the Frogs blast the commies in VietNam the way the Brits did in Malaya. (Of course the commies back in Paris weren't all that keen on the idea, either.) (2) We should have let MacArthur finish off the CHICOM when we had the chance in Korea. We now know the Russkis would not have stopped us.
from an email
“A no-fly zone in Libya has been in the news. Recall some history; back in 1781, at the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia, George Washington won the Revolutionary War because the French fleet blocked the British fleet from rescuing General Cornwallis. This was a No-Sail Zone. The French seem always up to this sortie thing.”
France’s no-sail zone saved Washington and us Americans.
Now the UN & the French get to install their IMF Muslim lackey Ouatarro. This sets a dangerous precendent. The 2007 peace accord required that the Northern Muslim Rebels disarm. They did not and th UN and the French who demanded the reunification of the Ivory Coast has consistently favored Ouatarro because he supports their goals in the nation.
The election last year was plagued by massive fraud in the Northern Muslim areas with some areas showing impossible turnout of 150% and some having Gbagbo votes disappearing entirely showing zero votes even though his representatives had voted for him at the location. The UN rushed to certify the election in Ouatarro’s favor much like they did in Venezula with Chavez. The Ivorian Supreme court examined the allegations of fraud and removed fradulent votes from Ouataro’s totals which gave Gbagbo the Presidency. Gbagbo may not be blameless but the situation in the Ivory Coast was made worse resulting in loss of life and a humanitarian crisis in the South as over a million Christians have been displaced into Liberia. This is not an accident.
What kind of “racism” does the United States of America have?
We also could’ve helped Ho became he turned commie. Cut De Gaulle and his pissant empire loose and then we wouldn’t even have to deal with dominoes
