Libya: rebel defences 'failing' as Gaddafi forces move towards Benghazi
Guardian (UK) ^ | 2011-04-10

Muammar Gaddafi's forces continued to fight their way toward Benghazi, the heart of Libya's revolution, as five African leaders arrived in Tripoli in an effort to broker a ceasefire and political settlement. Rebel defences around Ajdabiya appeared to be failing as Gaddafi's soldiers broke in to the heart of the strategic town, 90 miles from Benghazi, and engaged in running street battles after again outmanoeuvring the revolutionaries. Although western powers continued their air strikes, they did not appear to deter Gaddafi's forces.

I strongly disagree with this action in Libya. Vietnam (the war they HATED) was much more justified than this one.

Oh oh. Looks like Barry, the two Susans, and Hill are in a pickle.

They either commit ground forces, or they let Qaddafi win.

What ever they choose, they lose.

And from what I've seen in the past (during Bush) when we open a new front the enemy in the other fronts start increasing attacks, suicide bombings and everything else. Almost as if they think we're occupied somewhere else and not focused on their front so they take advantage.

I don't know if that's the thinking behind the enemy but it always seems like the violence increases in the other fronts when we open a new one.

Only possible difference would be that we're on the side of the same enemy here in Libya while fighting them in the other fronts. I guess it could go either way.

expect a Libyan backed terror attack (which means it’ll be successful and kill hundreds if not thousands) and we’ll have to go in anyway to knock him out of power.

Yep, we had a deal on terror with Mo, and we broke the deal.

He'll never make another, and he will do his worst.

Beyond that, we won't get support from the UN (or probably anybody else) for a future go around with Libya, and there will be five possible vetoes on the Security Council.

Refugees will increase the Muslim influence throughout Europe, it's gonna be lonely for America.

My friend, you are right on the money. Obama has always in the pocket of Qaddafi!!! Shucks, Muslim, America Hater, Louie Farrakhan & Black Racist, America Hater, Reverand? Jeremiah Wright have deemed it so!!!! IMHO, Qaddafi bankrolled Obama’s POTUS Campaign in 2008. And......if you think that Obama gives one hoot about innocent American military folks & American citizens being slaughtered at Qaddafi’s behest, you must be high on Kool-Aid or reefer!!! Obama should be impeached. He is toast, and....so is his Democrat Party!!!

I can see that happening too. Either way, he’ll be angry about the NATO action and he’ll want blood. Half-measures weren’t good for us at all.

Who’s minding the store? Where’s obama on this war he started? Oh, right - that was yesterday’s news. The idiot has the attention span of a two year old.

Don’t know who to root for...

I do. I root for long, slow, bloody, vicious, ending finally in a bloody stalemate with an inconclusive truce of exhaustion, and both sides swearing revenge at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately it seems the Duck will win outright, probably before summer.

So, Obama must be something less than a colonel. I suspected as much.

Maybe we can sell them some more? Or borrow more money from China and give them to Gaddafi to buy his love.

You’re certainly correct about The Kenyan’s very limited attention span. When was the last time he or any member of his vile administration mouthed off about our “right to protect” as justification to attack another country?

What Liberal scum and Neocon scammers did not realize is that Daffy built the closest resemblance to civil society possible in an Islamic state - anticomunist Socialist society.

The financial perks Libyans have are difficult to fathom by a westerner saddled by university loan, mortgage loan and car loan.

That's why they are willing to fight. Libyans get the house or appartment as a gift when they got married, have free university tuition at home or abroad and can buy cars at wholesale price.

It's 5 million Libyans for Daffy and less than 1 million against.

"Gaddafi's military is in the town," said Saleh Mufta, a 25-year-old who was a science student before becoming an armed rebel.

"There's been a lot of shooting. Gaddafi has copied our techniques. He is not using so many tanks now after the air strikes. His men are in pickups. They move very fast. We don't know where they are. They just pop up."

In other words, Gadaffi is not playing fair, so how can the rebels win. It's not fair, waah-waah-waah!!!

Excellent points! I never thought about your point number 3:

Beyond that, we won't get support from the UN (or probably anybody else) for a future go around with Libya, and there will be five possible vetoes on the Security Council.

China, Russia and India (and other nations) now are criticizing us for not abiding by the UN resolution which ONLY calls for enforcing a No Fly Zone. Since day one were were hitting Gadaffi's forces on the ground and acting air force for the Al Qaeda connected rebels.

It's our own fault.

This will teach a lesson of some value. Your uber moral Democratic wars don’t mean ANYTHING in a world 100% dependent on oil.

Thou shalt not upset reliable suppliers. Period. Even when they threaten Total, Eni and BP (which Gadaffi was about to do, it’s why those CEOs pressured France’s and UK’s PM).

It’s about oil. EVERYTHING is about oil. Nothing else matters.
