British Muslim radicals were among at least 61 people arrested in Paris today in connection with an illegal rally against France’s burka ban.
They included Anjem Choudary, the radical cleric who advocates sharia law for the UK and who calls British soldiers murderers.
Omar Bakri and Abu Izzadeen, who are also controversial figures, tried to get to the event but were stopped by police. Nineteen veiled women were arrested.
A police spokesman said: ‘Muslim leaders from Britain and Belgium were among those detained as they travelled to the event.
‘The fear was that they would inflame the situation. This was an illegal rally calling for France’s burka ban to be scrapped and for sharia law to be introduced.’
Tensions are running high in France because of the law, which comes into force on Monday, banning all women from wearing Islamic face veils.
Women face fines of £130 and will get ‘civic duty’ guidance if they break the law, while men who force their wives or daughters to wear full veils will face up to a year in prison and fines of up to £25,000.

I applaud your sentiments, but certain things are impractical. Now Choudary, a militant anti-British hanger on, living high on the welfare hog, is something that should be managed. He joyfully exults when British troops are killed in Iraq and elsewhere. 1940 and the Brits would have hung him.

I will do some careful reading on your profile. We have similiar ideas.
All the women who wear islam clothing must cover the entire body, only the hands and face may remain visible, look like they all been to a funeral and the reason for this strictness is so that the woman are protected from the lustful gaze of men.Islam protects the woman; it is for this reason that Allah gave these laws, believe it or not.
Here’s what I don’t get. Male gynecologists look at nude women all day long and the vast majority don’t become sex-deranged animals because of it. What excuse do these guys have that they can’t handle the sight of a woman’s elbows or calves?
France is now the Leader of the Free Western Modern World. How the mighty have fallen, but then when you elect someone that hates his own Country...thats what happens...
