Like any defense attorney they know that if you don’t have the law on your side you scream and throw crap on the wall...anything to obscure the fact that you don’t have the law on your side.
The way I heard it is:
If the evidence is on your side, argue the evidence.
If the law is on your side, argue the law.
If neither the evidence nor the law is on your side, pound the table.
