Union members from Illinois and other nearby states will gather in Daley Plaza at 1 p.m. Saturday to show support for workers in Wisconsin, where the governor has signed legislation ending their collective bargaining rights.
Wisconsin state Sen. Chris Larson spent three weeks on a friends air mattress in Chicago hiding out with other Dairy State Democratic legislators hoping to kill the legislation by their absence. He will be here to warn workers that similar legislation is headed for their states.
Illinois may be the next state they go after, Larson said. In Indiana and Michigan, things like this are happening. In Iowa, Democrats have a two-seat majority in the state Senate. Thats the only reason its not happening there.
Republicans who have long wanted to attack unions are seizing upon the national economic downturn to introduce legislation in state capitals around the country drafted by the corporate-funded, conservative American Legislative Exchange Council cutting back on unionized workers rights to bargain collectively, Larson said.
They say, We should get rid of unions and blame the budget dilemma on them its pretty obvious when you see the exact same legislation cropping up everywhere, Larson said
Wisconsin Republicans eventually realized they could pass the bill without Democratic votes. Gov. Scott Walker signed the bill, saying the Wisconsins fiscal crisis demanded sacrifice from unionized workers. But the bill has stalled in the courts.
Democrats thought they scored a victory this week when....

So a load of manure is being dumped in Chicago today...man does that stink!
"....long waited to attack (such projection) vs adjusting to fiscal reality.
LOL!! Their hero Rahm Emanuel the new Mayor of Chicago is attacking the unions too! He gonna rip them a new butt! Then what will happen?
The problem with collective bargaining for public workers is that they were able to co-opt their bargaining “opposition” by buying their compliance with campaign contributions and votes. The unions got much higher than average raises by converting them to long term, budget-busting benefits time bombs. The bombs are due to explode in a very poor economic environment. Scott Walker was a genius in figuring out how to end the practice and courageous enough to put himself on the line to achieve the goal.
One of the very real benefits of ending collective bargaining will be a significant improvement in public education.
Single payer public education will never work. Even eliminating the teachers unions will only marginally improve public education. Things will not improve until:
a) Parents directly pay the tuition
b) Fathers raise their children
Communists in the city of corrupt communism.

The article, like the media coverage, buries the fact that it is PUBLIC WORKERS’ unions. They simply added all union workers to their list of who Republicans want to die (elderly, minorities, women, spotted owls, etc.).
Could you imagine the misinformation that would be thrown about without an internet? As it is, they pretend that it doesn’t exist (and have steadily lost their audience as a result).
When I first scanned the headline , I thought it read “Dealey Plaza”. I thought, “Man, that’s a bizarre choice”.
How many gangs will show up and demonstrate that Chicago is a criminal wasteland
It needs all the improvement it can get.
....improve just about everything wrong with this country.
And toss in tenure!
Whew, its a good thing that I read the headline twice because the first time I read it I thought it was "Unions to show support for Wisconsin workers in Dealey Plaza". In that case they teachers union might have been willing to take over the Texas Schoolbook Depository.
On the days when I can try to stand back and watch the fray, I am amused at the desperation of the left in trying to protect its fiefdom. From the frantic protests in our Capitol building in Madison, to the threats of regulating the internet and silencing talk radio, to union boycotts and threats, they are trying to plug a dike that is about to burst. I sense that we are nearing a conclusion if we just have the courage to stay the course.
This needs to be carved in stone alongside the red bottom line of each state.
And how much each state's budget is poured into education must be HIGHLIGHTED, alot!
50%?
50+%?
Lower? How much?
This is a fact.
After what we’ve seen in Wisconsin - teachers bringing their politics into the classroom and co-opting our children for their demonstrations, something needs to be done to rein in these arrogant teachers.
The mind-bending they are doing to our children in their classrooms is as destructive as if they were physically molesting them. I hope that our legislature passes a law that makes it illegal for teachers to bring their politics into the classroom.
The new collective bargaining rules in WI will make it possible to get these activists out of the system.
Dealey Plaza -— sort of ties in with the commie-union connection though.
“.....The mind-bending they are doing to our children in their classrooms is as destructive as if they were physically molesting them...”
The story just below my posted thread article, also on the front page of the Chicago Sun-Times:

We have similar battles going on here in NJ, and the results are mixed. The governor has clearly won the battle of public opinion; public school teachers are regarded with the same disdain as child molesters. This was not just because their salaries & benefits were exposed (hence the true destructive nature of their deals was exposed as well; a financial time-bomb ticking away), but also because they wouldn’t grant concessions that would have saved the jobs of a lot of policemen, firemen, town clerks, and OTHER TEACHERS.
On the other hand, our slightly diminished corps of permanent parasites has continued to receive sizable pay increases, while keeping benefits packages that haven’t been seen in the private sector in years. All the while, our children become increasingly ignorant; speak to any teacher under 50, and you’ll see why: the teachers themselves are stupid. That isn’t a knock at the under-50 crowd (I’m under 50), but a statement of fact - though they are the ones laughing all the way to the bank.
