Incarcerated felon Monica Conyers totally misses you, Detroit

This was somehow missed in all the uproar about the Japan tsunami that also happened on 11 March.

It seems that Monica Conyers, the very classy wife of Congressman John Conyers, has unburdened herself of some thoughts concerning her ongoing experiences in federal custody. Among the heartwrenching trevails she must endure at Alderson Federal Prison (apparantly also known as "Camp Cupcake") are these: small portions in the mess hall, you can't get seconds of the things you like, and she has to keep company with a lot of female drug dealers.

Recall that Ms. Conyers was convicted for taking bribes totalling almost $70K to support a contract with a company called Synagro, which was paid about $47 mil per year to haul Detroit's sewage sludge to who knows where. I'm unable to determine if they made any trips to Alderson Federal Prison.

Recall also that Ms. Conyers had a colorful exchange with Detroit City Council President Ken Cockrel, in which she repeatedly referred to him as "Shrek." This is, in fact the same Monica Conyers who took time out of her busy schedule to be pwned by eighth grader Kierra Bell in a "discussion" concerning the aforementioned "Shrek" attack.

Monica Conyers's "Hello Mudda Hello Fadda" letter got buried in the blizzard of tsunami news last month. Here we do our small part to put right this oversight.

Someday someone is going to write a real history of the politics of Detroit ca. 1960-2010, it should be a best seller.

Beginning with the Mayorship of Jerry Cavanaugh in 1961 the city went straight downhill and never recovered. Some folks in power made a decision around 1970 that property crime was something the little people would have to learn how to live with. The little people moved out.

You want to know what killed Detroit? Crime and race. Somehow around 1965 arresting minorities for crimes committed became “racism”.

People, of all colors could not leave fast enough.

Somebody cue Julie London ("Cry Me A River").

IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME,
THEN DON'T DO THE CRIME!

I read somewhere that the decision was made within the Johnson administration -- some irony there, huh? the "Johnson" administration -- that the decision was made to "let them have one city and see how they run it." The "Model Cities" program was created largely to help Detroit through what was expected to be a fairly disruptive transition to all-minority rule (other cities got money from the Model Cities pot, but the story was that Detroit was the main impetus for the program).

Of course, a few years later, Detroit exploded in some of the worst multicultural riots in American history, but that's the way it crumbles cookie-wise, right?

“I heard she voted in WI Tuesday”

If the people of WI are stupid enough to allow same-day registration and voting when their neighbor to the east is the Democrat-fraud capital, Chicago, perhaps they ought to go belly up. Every one of those same-day registrations should be checked for fraud, but I’m sure that is impossible.

Had this been the wife of a conservative member of Congress, he would have been ripped apart in the media when she was prosecuted and would have stepped down in shame. There’s no way her husband wouldn’t have known what she was up to. Corruption is their way of life.. and yet they get a free pass.
The ‘fair and balanced’ media is just as absent. ticks me off.

Thanks for the great post, kjo.

“...not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” It is a shame this extremely powerful statement is only given credence when black Americans feel they've been wronged. They ignore Dr. King's message that “character” is their end of the bargain.

I agree 100% that people should be judged by the content of their character, whether exemplary or deplorable.
