Amid the threat of a looming government shutdown, House Speaker John Boehner is getting emotional again.

Per ABC News's Jon Karl, the Republican leader, who is known for his tears, was updating the House GOP caucus this morning on the ongoing budget stand-off when his emotions got the best of him. As he was thanking fellow Republicans for sticking with him amid the tense negotiations, the GOP lawmakers rose to give him a standing ovation, prompting Boehner to weep.

"Yes," a person at the private meeting tells ABC. "He cried, but only briefly."

Paul Ryan has been taking all the heat on this issue, and he hasn't cried about it or worn a pink tie.

Ryan authored the FY2012 budget.

Boehner is negotiating the Continuing Resolution for the FY 2011 budget.

Two separate issues.

I don’t remember hearing about Patton boo-hooing and he had a lot more stresses than Boohoo-ner. The guy doesn’t have what it takes. Once again, we are stuck with milquetoast when we need nads of steel. Get the tear ducts under control or hand over it over to a real man.

The facts in the article are different than the headline "suggests".

Chuckle. My post you are referring to says exactly that.

We're not in disagreement.

You guys are too tough on him. As an adult, I’ve cried. When my Mom died. For 5 minutes.

OK, then. You and the Girly Men like Boehner can quibble about a symbolic $60 billion or so from an already late budget.

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to be an advocate for Paul Ryan, who at least can put forth a plan for the future without crying about it.

Boehner is negotiating the Continuing Resolution for the FY 2011 budget.

If he were a leader, he would have already put together a bill and put it up for a vote. This puts the pressure on the Senate, but instead he gets all weepy about the negotiations. The time to negotiate ended in January. It is time to exercise a little power.

The guy doesn’t have what it takes.

If Boehner gets a good deal on these negotiations and he shepherds Ryan's bill through he certainly does have what it takes.

Some are fixated on ridiculing tears, but just who are the real adults ...the ones who are working to get the major tasks done or the ones who snipe at the former on political message boards?

Boehner is negotiating the Continuing Resolution for the FY 2011 budget.

What 2011 budget? There was no 2011 budget. The Dems punted in September and the government has been operating on continuing resolutions since 2010.

the ball has been in Boehner's court for 4 months. He keeps punting it. If Boehner was a leader he would have proposed a budget instead of passing more CR's.

I am truly sorry to hear of your grief.
In context, the exhibition of Mr. Boehner is not attached to grief or a personal loss of a loved one. It is about campaign funding and reelection. This is strictly the business of governance. Sharp elbows and a thick skin are required in the arena of public service. The fiduciary duties of the elected get overlooked when they deflect to emotion. Unfortunately we are all human, and give our public servants a pass when they point out the dead puppies in the ditch.

He's going through days of grueling negotiations enduring much more pressure than most men ever could.

Oh, for crying out loud. People endure grueling, pressure filled situations all the time. And most under a lot worse conditions than the pampered princes in Congress. Sheesh!

If he were a leader, he would have already put together a bill and put it up for a vote.

Are you referring to the budget bill HR1, which was passed by the House in their first week -- but has not been voted on by the Senate?

Point being, Boehner has already done what you would have him do. And, since the Senate didn't pass HR1, they have to work with CRs.

And, so far, Boehner has taken a bite out of the Dem spending plans with every negotiation.

He's playing their game better than they are.

Who the heck voted for this whiny baby? I never heard of him before he stepped up into the high chair of the House.

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to be an advocate for Paul Ryan,

Oh, I'm an advocate for Ryan all right...

But I also think there's more going on in current budget negotiations beyond just a simple quibble because there's a fair number of Tea Partiers who will rip the GOP House apart and treat this as a "last straw" if the GOP doesn't get the upper hand.

And there's a few Dem Senators who will use any victory they might win to rally their base to try to keep their seats in '12 which is a dynamic it would be better to prevent.

I think it's good to walk (current budget) and chew gum (2012 budget) at the same time.

Ok, I was wrong. But if he passed a budget, then he needs to pass on any CR until the senate votes up or down on his budget. There is nothing to negotiate.

I don’t mind him being an emotional guy as long as he does a good job for us.

Some people are just deeply touched by events and having Republicans give him a standing ovation after facing the hate wall of the Muslim in the White Hut and his awful minions, I am sure he was touched that his homies backed him up.

My graddad was easily moved by love, graditude or sadness to tears. He did not blubber, but his eyes filled up. I loved that tenderness about him. He was a strong guy and a manly man who loved deeply.

than the pampered princes in Congress.

Well, this pampered prince is now is responsible for standing up the vile Democrats as they use every trick in the book to slime him with the help of the communist media and while a large segment on the right go right along with the mud-slinging.

If this is pampered I'm glad I'm not.
