In White House's view, Paul Ryan's plan a weapon for 2012

Just over a year ago, President Barack Obama singled out Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as a serious-minded Republican who could be a partner in the kind of “adult conversation” the president said he welcomes on entitlement reform.

But when Ryan stepped forward Tuesday with his long-awaited budget plan, an ambitious attempt to slice almost $6 trillion in federal spending and fundamentally alter Medicare and Medicaid, the White House rejected it. Obama brushed off a question about the plan at a brief news conference. And press secretary Jay Carney described it as flawed in approach.

We need to ‘go for it’ in 2012, and if the voter reject our approach, we’ll wait in the wings to pick up the pieces when the socialist house of cards collapses in the next few years. I don’t care to sit around and do the reach across the aisle bit, offering a middle way to lurch to the left at a slower pace. Let’s give America a clear decision to make, and hope like hell they choose wisely.

The attitude changed once the WH realized Ryan wasn’t itching to reach across the damn aisle to make-nice and was as serious as a heart-attack about taking Obamacare apart.

He will now be Alinskyed..just watch and see.

“Just over a year ago, President Barack Obama singled out Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as a serious-minded Republican who could be a partner in the kind of “adult conversation” the president said he welcomes on entitlement reform.”

whose the other adult in this scenario obama is speaking about?? sure as hell can’t be him....

“The reality is that Democrats with close ties to the White House believe Ryan has handed Obama a powerful political weapon for 2012 — an issue that starkly defines the GOP as a party bent on attacking the vulnerable with the potential to cause the same kind of damage as George W. Bush’s ill-fated plan to privatize Social Security.”

let’s hope they use it as a “weapon”- obama and the rats self admittedly got shellacked based on their incompetence and reckless spending...i can hear it now, “Paul Ryan wants to cut the budget!!”

From Article just above:

*********************************

But while Boehner may have backing from the old veterans in his camp, he’s run headlong into the tea-party group of House Republicans who believe that Obama and Senate Democrats would come off the worse if a shutdown actually takes place.

These hard-line Republicans, not all of whom are freshmen, have forced Boehner to play hardball with the Democrats or face a potential threat to his own survival as speaker. This hard-core faction is insisting on no less than the $61 billion spending cut package passed by the House in February, and they’ve refused to back to any proposal that includes smaller reductions. Reid and Senate Democrats have pushed a much smaller reduction of $33 billion. As of Tuesday afternoon, the potential of a shutdown was growing, but could be headed off by a Boehner offer of $40 billion in cuts plus certain policy riders favored by GOP lawmakers.

The split among Republicans breaks somewhat along generational lines, but even more clearly between those who have served in government — either in the state, local or federal level — and those who have never done so.

I don’t think the democrats can use the Ryan plan to their advantage. Sr citizens know we are going to have to modify the system or before too long , the Gov’t runs out of money and they get nothing. They will see right through the dem’s. Boehner is a fool if he thinks a shut down gives the dem’s an edge and re-elects Obama. In 96 we were not running trillion dollar deficits. Today , the polls show a good majority supports a shutdown if it leads to reduced spending.

I’m sure both sides are looking at it as a tool for 2012. It’ll be interesting to see which side it benefits more.
