No information about what caused the crash at this time. Contact I know indicated the pilot has been extracted but not in very good condition from resulting fire. This information however is not confirmed. Please pray for the pilot.

This is like the third or fourth fighter jet we have lost recently.

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

Fighter aircraft are dangerous, on the ground, with all the pins in. Much more so in the air at 200kts loaded with fuel, weapons, radars that can kill at close ranges, hot ejection seat, hydrazine tank, explosive bolts, canopy rockets, and a gigantic fire sitting behind a massive fan. We lose fighter ac during wartime, and during peacetime.

God bless the men that fly and fight.

LA Times is saying both RIO and pilot were killed. (Its a blog, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Very sad, prayers for the surviving families, friends and squadron-mates.

Now confirming both the pilot and WSO did not survive the accident. God bless them and their families.

Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep, Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace To those with wings who fly thro' space, Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain, Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear an humble prayer, For those in peril in the air! Amen.

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r, Our brethren shield in danger's hour, From rock and tempest, fire and foe, Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Amen.

I offer my prayers for our pilot. We only allow our very best who answer the call to serve to do these jobs.

The Navy has relatively new airplanes but in general our aircraft are worn out having now done two decades of serving the world for stable oil supplies and freedom for a few. Freedom bought at a high price by our young people who volunteer to write a check for their lives made out the the United States of America.

They deserve better than the maze of red tape, blunders and defense industrial complex profiteering that stands in the way of cost effective and serviceable weapons.

Local news stated 2 pilots dead. Eye witness saw the plane doing “tricks”. Witness said it was in a free fall straight down, and never pulled out.

I watched that video you linked to below, and also heard the “tricks” comment. (An aviation aficionado, or someone never exposed to aircraft?)

Could be something as simple a “break” where all aircraft strip away from a fly in, one at a time coming in for a landing.

Also heard something about them all heading to the ground and pulling up at the last minute, one at a time. Touch and go landing practice in preparation for a carrier qualification det?

Will wait on the official word.
