GREATER MEDIA Talk WTKK (96.9 BOSTON TALKS)/BOSTON talk host JAY SEVERIN is out. The company suspended the talk show host last month (NET NEWS 3/31), and reports last week (NET NEWS 4/1) claimed the suspension was related to comments about sexual harassment.
GREATER MEDIA released the following statement:
"GREATER MEDIA TODAY ended its relationship with JAY SEVERIN. Our company has always encouraged a free and open dialogue on a variety of issues and topics, and we will continue to be guided by that principle. But we also demand that our on-air talent maintain an appropriate level of civility, and adhere to a standard that respects our listeners and the public at large.
"JAY SEVERIN has been an important part of what we have accomplished with 96.9 WTKK-FM since its inception in 2000 and for that we are grateful and wish him well in future endeavors. Unfortunately, it had become clear at several points in the past two years that JAY was either unwilling or unable to maintain our standards on the air. It's for that reason we have made the decision to end our relationship.
"In the interim, MICHAEL BOWER will be assuming the on-air duties from 2-6 each day on WTKK while we review our long-term programming plans for that time slot."
It’s a problem for them when their ratings and billings suffer and
he’s locked up in an expensive contract...
Yep. The faux-outrage over what amounts to Jay's normal statements is just so absurd. Of course it's about money.
How about Mel Robbins probably the most annoying, self important woman to grace the airwaves.
Now Bowers name is at top of banner on their site
JIM & MARGERY—MICHAEL GRAHAM— MIKE BOWER— WEEKENDS

Ack! She’s unbearably arrogant, and another one of WTKK’s liberals. I don’t know how she stays on the air. “Pushy” doesn’t do her justice. She runs over people like a bulldozer.
Here’s another liberal offering from WTKK: “The Garden Guys”. They sound like a bunch of old hippies who never left the old herb garden. Thank goodness they’re on early Sunday morning.
Liberal? Funny, if you believe one comment on the Globe’s site, WTKK is nothing but a “right wing lie machine”
(My sister is a liberal and LOVES Jim and Margery)
OK...The Mike Bowel, er, Bower era begins.
“Coming up today on the show, we’re talking about the brands you, 110 per cent, miss. We will find out how different disconnecting would be, if we pulled the plug. “
I don’t think that there are many people in this state who are to the left of Jim, and Margery, supposedly the right-winger, is a bimbo who can only be considered more conservative than Jim, which is essentially meaningless. At least Jim has a brain. What on earth keeps Margery employed?
Boy, that'll narrow the field of lefties they could hire in his place.
Jim can be amusing but Margery always sounds like her mouth is full of peanut butter. Impossible to listen to her.
When my mother lived in southern NJ she listened to Smerconish and loved him but his political philosophy has changed dramatically. I can’t stand him.
My afternoon listening will now be Steve Malzberg out of NY.
Smerconish has some odd opinions. I don't think he's very conservative, and I find his manner annoying.
Do you listen to Malzberg online? I live so far from Boston that AM is almost useless to me, which is one of the reasons I liked WTKK. I don't listen to the radio unless I'm driving, walking, working in the garden or elsewhere.
I listen to Malzberg online. He’s on from 4-6 on WOR 710. He’s terrific. I used to listen when he was on WABC late at night. I could pick up the signal and I became a big, big fan.
Thanks for the tip. Who knows? Maybe he’ll end up in Boston on an FM station some day. I can get some Providence stations, although with weak signals.
“Severins former rival WRKO-AM (680) host and Herald columnist Howie Carr expressed interest. Carr, whose WRKO contract runs out next year, tried to jump ship to WTKK in 2007. I wish Jay the best, and Im always looking for new opportunities to upgrade my position, Carr said.”

Yups, i’m driving home every afternoon and Steve Malzberg makes the hectic drive fly by ez.
He’s got Trump as a guest today. The bc issue should be paramount.
