WTF does any of that mean? Yes I realize we don’t have a great deal of time to fix it, but we also don’t control the Senate or the Executive.
You need the votes to get it done.
You don’t have the votes. Sitting there pontificating about your superior position on the issue doesn’t change that reality.
How are you going to get it done?
It means that if you don’t try to get it all you won’t get it. I agree that the odds are not good, but by at least asking for what needs to be done we will have done all that can be done and may reset the terms of debate so that what needs to be done can be done in time.
The Ryan plan is timid, inadequate, and cowardly. That also sums up the Republican Party. I generally vote for the Rs, but it reflects a triumph of wishful thinking over experience.
My prognostication is that because of the corruption of the character of the American people we are headed toward civil unrest sparked by economic collapse. When? Within the next decade - maybe sooner than later.
I would say that you take a shot, the only shot we may ever have. Shut down the government, take the case to the American people every night by spending whatever capital is necessary to do so. Show America what the “world” will look like after bankruptcy, and the World band IMPOSING its will on Americans and the politicians we so proudly say are part of a “Free Country” lolololololololol.
“You need the votes to get it done.”
Madison set up a government where you need the votes to get it done but you don’t need the votes to stop it. Republicans have the votes to stop it.
I think many Conservatives have bought into the Democrat and Media invention that the compromise between what the Republicans vote for is 1/2 way to what the Democrats would vote for. Not so. Our founders decided that Liberty would be protected if only what Democrats AND Republicans freely agreed to became law. The baseline position with our constitution is that NOTHING gets done and its branches work from there.
