CHICAGO Lawyers for Rod R. Blagojevich, the former governor of Illinois, are asking a judge for access to notes from an interview President Obama had with federal authorities over his former Senate seat.
The request was made in a motion filed Monday in advance of Mr. Blagojevichs April 20 retrial on federal corruption charges. The judge rejected a similar request before Mr. Blagojevichs first trial last summer.
Mr. Blagojevich will be tried again on 20 counts after the jury in the first trial was deadlocked on most charges. Prosecutors claim that Mr. Blagojevich tried to sell the Senate seat vacated by President Obama, among other allegations.
In the motion, Mr. Blagojevichs lawyers said they wanted to see written reports of President Obamas interview with the F.B.I. in December of 2008 to determine whether his statements contradict testimony by Tom Balanoff, a union leader. Mr. Balanoff testified during the first trial that President Obama told him he wanted his adviser Valerie Jarrett to remain in the White House, but that she wanted to be in the Senate and was qualified to serve there.
