SANA, Yemen The United States, which long supported Yemens president, even in the face of recent widespread protests, has now quietly shifted positions and has concluded that he is unlikely to bring about the required reforms and must be eased out of office, according to American and Yemeni officials.
The Obama administration had maintained its support of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in private and refrained from directly criticizing him in public, even as his supporters fired on peaceful demonstrators, because he was considered a critical ally in fighting the Yemeni branch of Al Qaeda.

The Americans have been pushing for transfer of power since the beginning of those negotiations, the official said, but have not said so publicly because they still were involved in the negotiations.

No leadership out of DC.
Things change as often as the wind direction.
That’s because the wrong guy is in the Oval Office.
He’ll be replaced with someone a lot worse.
Egypt, Libya, and now Yemen? If there was any doubt there is a pattern here, it’s gone. The Obama admin is definitely trying to prop up radical Muslim regimes across the Middle East.
Well Mr. Peanut pretty much threw the Shah of Iran under the bus and we all know how that worked out.
Yemen is already a hotbed of terrorism, we better hurry up and arm them.

I think this could be very dangerous. Yemen is the most dangerous hotbed for extremism geopolitically, since, if the Islamists gain control there, it is only a matter of time before they are able to topple the precarious regime in Saudi Arabia.
Once that happens, it’s game over for any kind of “moderate” Islam. Most westerners do not understand the significance of this, but perhaps comparing it to medieval Europe is enlightening. Saudi Arabia is a bit like the Vatican, in that, if the radical ideologies take control there, the theological advantage they will gain in the Muslim world will be orders of magnitude more important than the strategic advantage they will gain, even with all of Arabia’s oil reserves.
Why aren’t we pushing to remove Hamid Karzi, who caused the Koran-burning riots, and is thus responsible for the subsequent murders?
Kenyan Kinetics.
The U.S. has apparently switched sides. We seem to be pro alQuada and MB now?
I am really lost on what we are doing. It seems inconsistent?
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
For crying out loud!
I’m sure Hitlery and 0bama are working on that right now.

0bama is very consistent......in undermining and harming the United States.
Welcome to Free Republic.
Pushing to remove a president?!?
Show us HOW!!!! (I’m taking notes....any help will be appreciated. I’ve got a pansy-in-chief, here.....)
People forget that Obama fired cruise missiles into Yemen couple years back. It was easy to miss because he was on his European Nobel Peace prize tour.
