NH House majority leader: Bishop is a 'pedophile pimp'
union leader ^ | april 2, 2011 | By TOM FAHEY State House Bureau Chief

Posted on 04/03/2011 4:13:35 AM PDT by sopwith

Bettencourt, the House majority leader, Friday defended his Facebook page posting that calls Catholic Bishop John McCormack, "a pedophile pimp."

Bettencourt, R-Salem, posted the statement late Thursday after McCormack spoke against budget cuts at a State House rally. McCormack is the leader of New Hampshire's 290,000 Catholics. He told a crowd estimated at between 4,000 and 5,000 people that the budget plan Republicans passed neglects society's obligation to care for the poor and vulnerable.

On his Facebook page, Bettencourt attacked McCormack not for what he told the crowd, but for his role in the Archdiocese of Boston's child sex abuse scandals of past years.

"Would the bishop like to discuss his history of protecting the 'vulnerable?' This man is a pedophile pimp who should have been led way from the State House in handcuffs with a raincoat over his head in disgrace. He has absolutely no moral authority to lecture anyone."

Should have been an excerpt.

Classic case of undermining what could have been legitimate criticism with over-the-top language. He could have just pointed out that bankrupting the state with social spending that goes into bureacrats’ pockets is not “protecting the poor and vulnerable” but rather, is robbing our kids of their standard of living for current consumption.

Bettencourt does have a point - and I don't really think it's "over the top" (though that's what the MSM wants us to think, of course.

Sorry, but you can't claim to be for the "vulnerable" when you basically act as a paedophilia enabler.

This "bishop" is a dirty hypocrite, and the Rep. was right to call him out on it.

Ping.
DJ offered a letter of “apology” to the bishop last night. He pretty much stuck to his guns. I and many others had advised him to stick to his guns. Rep. Vaillancourt was interviewed on Channel 9 and he said a better word would have been “pedophile enabler”. That is a more accurate description.
Probably take some of the heat off DJ.

This little tempest in a teapot has already started to die down. Young Mr. Bettencourt is now wiser for it.

Rep. Bettencourt is 100% accurate in his statement. At a minimum the Vatican should of removed McCormark and given him a cushy post in Italy like they did with his mentor, Bernie Law.

Maybe not the best statement.

But what’s up with Catholic priest and other Catholic officials chiming in on proper levels of government spending?

Perhaps, but I would consider that a tragedy.

McCormark belongs in jail for what he allowed to happen to those kids.

They've apparently become so accustomed to the government taking over the church's domain of charity for the poor that they've forgotten the days when the Church and other private institutions were a major force for lifting up the downtrodden.

One would think spreading the gospel would be a much higher priority for them.

Good for this representative! If the Church feels the need to spend more money on social causes, then it should do what Jesus taught us to do, raise the money ourselves and help the poor directly. No one who calls for the government to do this should be allowed to hold a leadership position in any church because that person is obviously completely misinformed when it comes to the teachings of Christ.

What bothers me is this crap draws attention away from our agenda and puts us on the defensive. Rat tactic.

If “Society” has an obligation to the poor, such assistance should come from private sources, not the public treasury.

Except that would not work. The "bishop" was trying to play the God card in this debate. The only way to trump that card is to show that the "bishop" has no authority to play that card.
