Exclusive: Ron Paul's $3M pot of gold
Politico ^ | 4-2-2011 | Andy Barr

Ron Paul raked in roughly $3 million during the first quarter through his various political organizations, POLITICO has learned.

Though not all of that money can be transferred to a potential presidential campaign, the big haul demonstrates Paul’s continuing force as a grassroots-powered online fundraiser.

The Texas congressman raised $1 million through his federal PAC and $2 million through Campaign for Liberty, a 501C(4) which cannot transfer funds directly to political organizations. Paul’s fundraising documents, to be filed later Thursday with the FEC, will also show he has $1.7 million on hand in his congressional campaign account.

“Dr. Paul's fundraising comes almost exclusively from individuals, not special interests,” LibertyPAC director Jesse Benton told POLITICO. “He received contributions from all 50 states, and his average gift this quarter was under $70, demonstrating his broad grassroots support.

“Dr. Paul's grassroots fundraising prowess is unmatched, and any 2012 political endeavor on which he embarks will have the financial backing it takes to win,” Benton added.

Much of Paul’s funds came via a Presidents' Day money bomb that netted $700,000 for his federal PAC. The money bomb was promoted through Paul’s Facebook page and libertarian websites promising his fans that “if we show him enough support, he will announce his official candidacy for 2012.”

I’d like to know how many of these most recent donors are members of our armed services.

The 2008 presidential campaign showed us that Paul received more donations from our military, and citizens employed by our military, than any other candidate despite their, (in some cases), significantly greater press coverage and/or name recognition.

That is pretty impressive.

Did not realize Paul got so much from the military. But, I can see military supporting him even though Paul is against the Mid East Wars. Many in the military share the same small-government, no-Globalism view that Paul shares

What will be interesting is 2012, if Paul should run...and how the Paul critics on the GOP are going to rail on Paul for being against the Mid East Wars.....when Obama now supports the GOP on them...

Not so much a Paul supporter....but the guy does make me think....

I doubt it, especially since you can't document it.

I would vote for his son in a nano...the dad I’m still straddling the fence. They both have honesty on their side which is a huge plus.

Agreed, and anyone who is for dismantling this globalist, UN sanctioned, new world order, anti-american, anti-liberty, stifling government apparatus is okay by me!

I just want to breathe free again, and this monstrous police state we are building in order to give us the false illusion of ‘safety’ is tiring. I will always choose to live free and accept the risks that come with being a free man in a free country.

Paul speaks the truth but many of us are addicted to the republican party talking points. Free trade , check. Fighting the globalists wars in the name of terror , check. Agree with the patriot acts in the name of terror , check. Expand government at a slower pace than the democrats , check. Borrow from China , check.

The 1st LibertyPAC moneybomb wasn’t all that impressive. He’ll raise a lot of money right away if he does announce he’s running. So will Sarah.

I’m sure that Dr.Paul has delivered his share of little conservatives into this world and today most have a chance to show him love with their loyal donations. All he needs to do is ask. I have been a donating supporter for the last three years and intend to continue as long as I’m able.

I’m not annoyed or angry at the lack of other conservatives support for Dr. Paul but wish that what he says and stands for could be received with a tad more respect and understanding. He is not a John McCain, John Edwards or Dennis Kucinich type but has shown to consistently be a thoughtful and sincere leader.

During most of the previous televised debates, the other candidates smirked and tittered when he would finally get a chance to answer a question. They acted so superior and let it be known that Dr. Paul really didn’t have the right to be on their stage. John Edwards was even recorded while whispering in Hillary’s ear, “he wished they could eliminate some less important from the debate so the serious candidates would have more time to answer.”

Dr. Paul is welcome at my house any time and I would not feel the need to hide my family, “the” pet or my coin collection for fear that this lesser guy would be a threat. John Edwards, Hillary and others; no thanks.

Last night I attended a fund raiser for the senate campaign of Richard Mourdock against Senator Dick Lugar; Dick Morris made the intro and was obviously a sincere supporter as I found out later that Morris came to Columbus, Indiana on his own dime to offer his support for Mourdock and against Mr. Lugar.

Columbus is the home district for Congress critter Mike Pence who will soon likely be announcing his candidacy to follow Mitch Daniels as Governor.
