Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., raised a combined total of $2.2 million in the first quarter of 2011, outgaining presumed presidential contender Mitt Romney who raised $1.9 million over the same period.
Bachmann's political action committee, MichelePAC, raised $500,000 while her Congressional reelection fund took in $1.7 million. The funds raised for her Congressional reelection could be transferred to any federal campaign, including one for president.
Bachmann is a formidable fundraiser. The Washington Post recently ranked her the top fundraiser in the House during the 2009-2010 election cycle. This latest fundraising haul, coupled with her frequent visits to Iowa and New Hampshire, show she may be moving closer to a presidential run, and that she may have the financial backing to sustain a campaign.
Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, raised $3 million during the first quarter but the majority was raised through his Campaign for Liberty. Since it is a 501 c(4) non-profit, its funds couldn't be transferred to a potential presidential campaign.
Like Bachmann, much of Paul's fundraising comes from smaller donations made by many individuals showing that both candidates may have a grassroots fundraising advantage.

I donated to her last year (as I have a number of people) and I have been sorry ever since. 3-5 emails a week from her, some from her husband, plus late hour phone calls! No other politician I’ve donated to has operated like that.
JUST SAY NO TO ROMMENY
Sounds like go-getting business people to me. We haven't had pols that are business people in a while...we forgot what it's like. LOL.
I like Michele Bachmann, but no one hounds you for money like she does. She was crying wolf last fall when she had three times the amount as her opponent.
I have contributed several times and was dumb enough to give them me cell number. They call incessantly. I told them that if they didnt stop calling I would stop donating. They kept calling and I have stopped donating. $75 that I would have given to Bachmann went to Renee Ellmers instead last fall.
Sorry. I used to like her, but it’s harassment.
No Rino!
Sorry to hear you had the same experience :( Another prolific fundraiser was Marco Rubio (FL-Sen). Marco however, mostly did a number of mass mailings with unique themes. One letter had a crisp dollar bill and said keep it but he’d really like if you donated back.
Then consider the Donald, he will not need donations.
Trump? hell no. I do, however, applaud his questioning Obama’s credentials.
Questioning Obummer’s BC and other credentials is not what impresses me. Trump is the ONLY person on either side who understands how China is screwing this country. China holds all the aces because we are in debt upto our eyeballs.
Trump is the only person who also understands what a stupid war in Afghanistan is. I was born in that region and I understand the situation better in Afghan than any US politician.
dudes,
if Palin stays out of NH ... Bachmann is making a push there.
If the polls are showing:
Mitt 35%
Barbour or Pawlenty 25%
Bachmann 15%
what does it mean? Is Bachmann a fallback option? I still say STOP MITT is JOB #1.
Anybody traveling to Davenport for the summer to organize for Bachmann? Dubuque?
