"This problem came to light because of the kind of transparency that I have worked for, for 30 years in government. So, I think I'll keep doing my job and working very hard as I have always done on holding government open to the sunlight of public inspection and making sure that if that are mistakes being made by people like me that the public knows about it and that people are held accountable," Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) said to reporters on a conference call on Wednesday.
"Voters will have to decide whether this big, serious, sloppy mistake is enough for them to decide not to hire me again," she added.
McCaskill came under fire earlier this month when it was disclosed she did not pay nearly $287,000 of taxes on her private jet business.

If it were not for Barbara Boxer, McCaskill would be the dumbest bag of rocks in the Senate.
Sounds a lot like “I cheated on my wife because I was so busy helping my country” or whatever tripe Newt Gingrich tried to use to excuse his infidelity.
Somehow I don’t see the “I got caught because I’m so honest” excuse is going to gain a lot of traction. Not even a nice try.
Patty Murray? I know it’s hard to imagine, but McCaskill still beats Murray.
Sounds just like Weiner yesterday, blaming diplomats for having unpaid parking tickets when his situation came to light.
These scum democraps are the lowest form of swamp scum on earth. And no offense meant to swamp scum.
I’m sorry, but Patty Murray is definitely dumber than McCaskill.
“Voters will have to decide whether this big, serious, sloppy mistake is enough for them to decide not to hire me again,”

The fat pig got caught with her face in the trough.
Taxes on her jet would not be the reason that I would vote against her. There’s probably plenty of other reasons.
That said, she hasn’t turned out to be nearly as bad as I first feared. She at least seems to understand that she can only lean so far left before the voters of Missouri would toss her out on her considerable can . . .
I certain number of people are going to buy this particular line of BS.
What a major league POS this pathetic excuse for a human being is.
That's what the fox said when it was caught in the henhouse.
We need a complete and total clean sweep of the ENTIRE gubment. THEY ALL MOST GO!
Not even close, you've got the welfare bitch from Washington, the lesbian dwarf from Maryland, and don't forget the pubbies have a pair of dozzies from Maine.
I'd like to check bobbi casey's undies 'cause if he does {or doesn't} have nutz, she/he is the absolute dumbest breathing senator in DC.
Then these politicians wonder why people loath them.
bobbi casey clearly doesn’t have any nutz, and its pathetically painful to try and listen to him stumble thru any statements or answers to questions! he/she makes the dumbest rock appear to be EINSTEIN! A total embarressment to Pennsylvania, the United States Senate, and Intelligence in General!
How about the Texas Tornado of Special Ed, Shelia Jackson-Lee?
Stay on topic! We were talking about senators. :) You’re opening up a whole new can of worms when you get to congressmen.
McCaskill wants us to forget she tried to change the Constitution on Feb. 28, 2008 by introducing S 2678: “Children of Military Families Natural Born Citizens” to make Obama eligible. It failed of course.
Then, on April 30, 2008 she had SR 511 passed by Congress saying McCain was eligible (questionable) and “..previous presidential candidates were born outside of the USA and were understood to be eligible to be President..” to help Obama. She loved him and wanted to be his V-P.
The entire mess by the NY Times and Dems about McCain was a smokescreen designed to take attention from Obama’s lack of a birth certificate. Since both Dems and Repubs voted for the resolution, they proved the Constitution meant little to them. Now they dare not hold impeachment proceedings.
