I have noticed the recent pro-Planned Parenthood commercials focus entirely on women’s health i.e. mammograms, pap smears etc.. No mention of abortions at all. Seems odd to me that a group so in your face about the fact it does abortions now ignores/hides the truth. IMHO

She (Cecile Richards) previously founded and served as president of America Votes, a coalition of national Democratic organizations.

Before that, she was deputy chief of staff to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has also worked at the Turner Foundation.

In 1996, she founded the Texas Freedom Network, a Texas organization formed to counter the Christian Right

Richards is the daughter of the late Texas governor Ann Richards. She graduated from Brown University in 1980, is married to Kirk Adams, a labor organizer with the Service Employees International Union, and has three children. She currently[update] lives in New York City

Well, it turns out that Planned Parenthood DOESN'T EVEN PERFORM MAMMOGRAMS!

The daughter of former Texas governor Ann Richards, veteran labor organizer and political operative Cecile Richards is the current President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), a board member of the Proteus Fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America, and a former director of a national pro-choice project for the Turner Foundation.

In 1972 Richards worked on Sarah Weddington’s political campaign for a seat in the Texas state legislature. Weddington was the attorney who would successfully argue the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide.

After graduating from Brown University in 1980, Richards began organizing low-wage workers in the hotel, health care, and janitorial industries in Texas, Louisiana, and California.

In 1995 Richards founded the Texas Freedom Network (TFN), which describes itself as a “mainstream voice to counter the religious right.” Based in Austin and composed of 28,000 members, TFN is devoted to “monitoring far-right issues, organizations, money and leaders.” TFN takes particular pride in having helped defeat a voucher initiative designed to help low-income parents send their children to private, rather than public, schools.

Richards says her passionate opposition to the “religious right” began in 1994, when, during the her mother’s gubernatorial race in Texas, she (Cecile Richards) perceived conservative religious voters as “angry, irrational” people who “were really on a mission to eradicate the state of [what they saw as] godless, pro-homosexual, anti-family elected officials.”

In 2003 Richards was one of the founding members of America Coming Together (ACT), the Shadow Party’s grassroots get-out-the-vote network. Also among ACT’s founding officials and board members were Ellen Malcolm, Steven Rosenthal, Carl Pope, Brian Foucart, Anne Bartley, Hillary Clinton, Gina Glantz, Rob Glaser, Jonathan Lewis, Rob McKay, Minyon Moore, Jonathan T. Soros, and Antonio Villaraigosa.

In 2002 Richards was part of a team of activists whom Democrat lobbyist and strategist Harold Ickes assembled as a mastermind group to seek ways of circumventing the soft-money ban mandated by the recently passed McCain-Feingold Act. Other key members of this team included George Soros, Andrew Stern, Ellen Malcolm, Steve Rosenthal, and Gina Glantz. By early 2003, their efforts had led to the formation of the Media Fund.

In 2004 Richards founded and served as the President of America Votes, a national coalition of grassroots, pro-Democrat, get-out-the-vote organizations.

Also in 2004, Richards worked as deputy chief of staff to Rep. Nancy Pelosi and helped her to secure a position as the Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives.

In 2005 Richards, in conjunction with Gina Glantz and New Democratic Network president Simon Rosenberg, formed the New Politics Institute, a leftist think thank.

On February 15, 2006, Richards was named President of PPFA, the largest abortion provider in the United States.

Richards also serves as President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, PPFA’s self-identified “advocacy and political arm” which in early 2008 declared that it hoped to “deliver one million pro-choice voters to the polls in November.”

In addition, Richards oversees the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Political Action Committee, which is “committed to supporting pro-choice, pro-family planning candidates for federal office.”

Since August 2006 Richards has been writing a blog on The Huffington Post website, where she often characterizes efforts to limit abortions (particularly late-term abortions) as attempts to “deny quality, affordable healthcare and accurate information to millions of women.”

In 2008 Richards endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for U.S. President, viewing him as “a leader who will improve access to quality health care for women, a partner who will support and protect a woman’s right to choose, and a president who will invest in prevention programs that help prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion.”

Over the years, Richards has made financial contributions to the political campaigns of several Democrats, most notably John Kerry and Howard Dean. She directs her support to candidates she believes will advance the cause of “economic justice,” which she defines as the effort to “reduce the gap between rich people and poor people in this country.”

She also has given money to such organizations as Progressive Majority, America Coming Together, EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Richards is married to Kirk Adams, a labor organizer with the Service Employees International Union.

I’m glad that Freerepublic informed me about Susan G. Komen because I was ready to sign up for the one in Tampa a few weeks ago. Guess they look pretty stupid right now.

It's not even about abortion at this point. Much like public sector unions today, it's all about the money and the guarantee of future federal funding to maintain their high life and organizing mechanisms.

Look at this woman's background? Her husband's?

Her name is Cecile Richards. And like her mother, the late Democratic matriarch and Texas Gov. Ann Richards, she is a powerful, in-your-face speaker who drives home political points with wit and, often, raunch.

A 2004 Texas Monthly profile described her as ” a striking six-footer and longtime labor organizer with a bright, explosive laugh who can stop a room when she walks into it just as her mother can.”

She told the magazine how her involvement in politics was all but inevitable after growing up stuffing political mailings, learning precinct politics, and hosting anti-war rallies.

“Other families did bowling,” she said. “We did politics.”

Besides her mother’s involvements, her father, David Richards, was a labor lawyer involved in civil rights, among other issues.

“We represented every union in the South,” David Richards told Texas Monthly. “Teamsters and garment workers, plumbers and pipe fitters.”

For entertainment, the family would sit around in the evening, singing old union songs like “Joe Hill.”

In 1982, Richards met her husband, Kirk Adams, also a labor organizer and now chief of staff of the Service Employees International Union, the largest union in America.

Cecile Richards followed her husband back to Washington in the late 1990s, and went to work for Ted Turner “to help build the infrastructure of the choice movement in America,” as she described it.

In 2002, she became deputy chief of staff for Democrat Nancy Pelosi, of California, who had just become minority whip in Congress and was about to become minority leader. Eighteen months later, she left that job to become president of a new organization, America Votes, a coalition of several dozen progressive groups intent on turning out the Democratic vote in 2004.

That was the position from which Planned Parenthood recruited her in 2005. Richard had no health background, but brought the steely resolve, as well as the rolodex, of a seasoned political operative.

“Listen, the reason I took this job is, I feel like we need to go into the 21st century,” she told the Washington Post in 2006. “Clearly, with some folks in the country, we’re going to get there kicking and screaming.”

Organizing sector croneyism.

Don't any liberals find it offensive that they need to be organized, like they are in second grade?

Sounds like WWII thinking in the "final solution".

There needs to be a gutter around this woman to prevent satan's drool from making too big of a mess.

Want to have some fun with PP? Call them and request some planned parenting. Tell them that you and the spouse are planning on having 14 kids and would like to get some advice on planning all fo that out. They are all about family planning right?

I did this years ago and had a ball with it. The woman on the other end of the phone didn’t know how to respond. “You do family planning right?” but after about 5 minutes its was “So you don’t help people plan families or be parents, you just kill babies? How is that family planning? Isn’t that anti-family planning?”

It turns out that people who kill babies are also generally stupid.

When my decidedly pro-life brother died last year, I nearly followed suit when I read in his obit that one of the charities (in lieu of flowers) folks could contribute to was the Komen Foundation. His daughter-in-law is in the 5-year breast cancer survivor period, and I’m sure the designation was well intended, but it showed how few people have a clue about Komen’s affiliation with PP.

So, I started searching this, and you can find all sorts of mammogram links and information on planned parenthood sites, including offers of free mammograms, and mammogram screening.

But if you look at the actual web pages, so far I haven't found any PP sites that actually do the mammograms.

So, the money isn't PP's money, it's a grant from the government. And PP doesn't do the tests, they simply find you someone who will. And it doesn't say, but I bet PP gets paid for this service out of the grant money, and also gets contact information for women who might also then say that "PP helped them" with mammogram services. PP might even lie to the women and make them think that PP is the one paying for their services.

They fake/lie caring about women. It’s all about power, control, money and if it takes murdering babies to get what they want, then that’s how they’ll do it.

If Komen gave the money because PP told them it was for mammograms and PP did not use the money for mammograms thensomebody at PP needs to spend some time in prison. Jimmy Bakker spent several years in prison for doing this. It is a serious felony.
