I don’t understand why computer-stuff has to be replaced so often.

If you used all the same old software, it wouldn’t have to be.
The P200 box downstairs (200 MHz Pentium) still runs Win95 just fine. And Office 97. But operating systems and applications tend to get larger and require more memory — of course they do a lot more too.
