Every wife I ever had needed to be shot at some (or several) point(s), yet I somehow managed to resist the urge.
This looks like it could be a 50-year argument resolved in an inappropiate manner.

Sounds like they couldn’t pay their bills and took a reverse mortgage. No caregivers for either and struggling. This had to end up badly under the circumstances.

This story says a lot about the wife. She must have been an insufferable ball-breaker. The husband preferred prison or suicide to her nagging.

The reverse mortgage was on a house worth half a million and was only 4 years into it. Taxes must be a real b*tch there if they couldn’t live off of that check each month with no house payment.
