It wasn’t a Japanese general, but rather Sun Yat-sen, Chinese revolutionary often referred to as the “Father of Modern China.”
Prior to, and in the early days of, statehood, apparently anyone could claim Hawaii citizenship just for the asking.
That was quite “boostful” of him.
