“I am anti-Christian because I disagree with giving public benefits to illegal aliens?
The duty of Government is not to fulfill peoples Christian obligations to charity- and Mike Huckabee is an idiot if he thinks that is the proper role of government.”

Welfare is a reality that is NOT going to change...too ingrained in system. That being the reality, as governor of his state, he felt it would be “unchristian” to subsidize some but not other...if I read him correctly. I concurr that “charity” should be a non-compulsory thing...meaning no tax monies used. However, until that is so...as in never. I understand his view...and agree it is the Christian thing to do.

And yes, I think Christ would not be so cold hearted as you state. “Caeser” has decreed welfare state....therefore it falls that the “Christian” thing would be to extend to all that need. This does not excuse someone being in this country illegally. However, except for those here for criminal (drugs, prositution, crime..) their only real crime was to want a better life like my ancestors...and probably yours did. Of course, immigration laws should and must be enforced. However, too many are just draconian in what they desire to happen to illegal immigrants.

Goodless, I DO NOT like being in the position of defending illegal immigrants. I just don’t like to see things blown out of proportion.

Blown out of proportion?

How about this for “proportion”?

While other State Governors have led on the issue of illegal immigration, Huckabee frames the Constitutional obligation of our Government as one of Christian charity. Don't kick them out, give them welfare.

When we were struck on 9-11 was it our Constitutional duty to “turn the other cheek”?
