we've all been around guys that we thought were gay. No big deal. Did they shove it in your face, around the base in front of the kids and the old lady....uh, no. Did they make a point of kissing their significant others adieu. Probably not, cause it's a private thing. This policy goes beyond that. It will be in the future where we need to have an openly gay general, an openly gay commander of FAO and on and on.
It's a distraction from the main mission of the Marine Corps. Protect the country, be the point of the spear and hold yourself in a manner that is honorable to the Corps, your country and yourself.

Great, great point. If there was someone who was gay and didn’t advertise it, was discrete, etc., it would never become an issue at all. The problem with this policy is that there is no longer a reason to do that.
