“His strategy - which helped him win the Presidency - is to portray all criticism him and his statist policies as the product of ignorant, racist conspiracy-mongering.”

What proof do you have of this claim?

“The great majority of conservative and libertarian opponents of Obama see that the Birther issue is a distraction that can only benefit Obama, and want no part of this idiocy.”

What proof do you have of this assertion? Polls would suggest otherwise.

You’re right about proof of my 2nd claim; I should say that that’s just my impression, from the people I talk to.

Regarding the 1st claim, just look at Obama’s campaign rhetoric. He was constantly trying to find irrational or racist criticism of himself so as to portray his opponents as nuts, and when he couldn’t find any, he said that it was coming any minute now. Remember this?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2008/06/20/us-usa-politics-obama-race-idUSN2040982720080620

“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”

To this day, Obama frequently makes Birther jokes. Why? To keep alive the meme that his opponents are nuts. MSNBC follows suit. Prior to MSNBC mentioning her about a million times, about 3 people ever heard of perennial candidate from somewhere or other, Orly Taitz. Why? Because she’s kind of freaky, she’s a Birther, thus she’s a good vehicle for portraying all opponents of Obama as freaks.

Obama’s statist policies, and his contempt for the American people, were repudiated in 2010, and they will be repudiated in 2012, so long as we keep our eyes on the ball, and not be distracted by nutball conspiracies.
