asked three people and they told me it was safe...I didnt think so....basic gun rules state fire ammo chambered for you rifle...

You got me to thinking about that myself, but then I always used .223 Remington factory or reloads through my Mini-14 (I didn't really shoot it very often, usually only at practical or 3 gun matches).

I did some checking, and found that while Ruger "says" their Mini-14 is chambered for .223 Remington, that you can also fire military 5.56 ammo as well in the owners manual, thought it might not be a bad idea to contact Ruger too.
