Michele Bachmann steals the show in Iowa
Politico ^ | 26 Mar 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

DES MOINES, Iowa — Michele Bachmann served up red meat to the crowd at the Iowa conservative principles conference Saturday, slamming President Barack Obama as a Jimmy Carter retread, dissing the Mitch Daniels "truce" call for social issues, and saying she wants a "waiver" from the last two years of White House leadership. Talking loudly and waving her hands, a pumped Bachmann used a slide presentation of various numbers — the national debt, the cost of a gallon of gas two years ago the day before Obama took office, the corporate tax rate — to make her points and pull the crowd in.

Suggesting that Iowa caucus voters had the power to halt Obama, Bachmann wrapped up her speech by asking, "Are you in? are you in for 2012?"

"I agree with you!" she said as the crowd cheered, and added, "I'm in!"

The Minnesota firebrand gave the best-received speech of the potential 2012 hopefuls appearance at Rep. Steve King's conference and the crowd wildly applauded her brand of populism. It was a reminder that while Bachmann has been criticized for miscues in her public statements, there is a space for her to fill in the Iowa caucuses should she decide to jump into the race for the White House.

She called for a "fair tax" and said that the "current United States tax code is a weapon of mass destruction."

Her focus was defunding Obamacare and the failure of all of Obama’s plans to supposedly “fix” our problems.

She had props of numbers that were significant to her point...she’d ask the audience if they knew what this and that number represented, and after their response she would make her point.

I don’t think she addressed Libya, or if she did, I missed it.

If she really starts to gain in popularity it will be time for the MSM to destroy her. ............................ They are already on it. She’s dumb etc.etc. already on their late night jokes. Ridicule is their ultimate weapon against all women who are Republican, and it is even worse when they are conservative.

That's a great picture of Palin and Bachmann together. I understand that Palin is not discouraging Bachmann from running. In fact, I've heard that it was Sarah who recommended that Michele compliment New Hampshire on being the home to Lexington and Concord.

J/K ;-)

They'd both make fine candidates, but I'm committed to Palin as a first choice.

The only problem I have with this is no Congress-person has been elected President since Garfield.

In her 2010 re-election campaign, she raised over $13 million, 95% of it from individuals, the most for any congressional race in history. She had over 500,000 contributors from all over the country, so her appeal is far and wide.

She kicked her opponent’s ass so badly in all the debates that the press wouldn’t even report on them it was so embarrassing for the democrat.

The liberals threw everything they had at her, raising almost $10 million for her challenger but she still won by 13 percentage points.

Congresswoman Bachmann is my second preference. I was disappointed however in the statement by “someone close to Mrs. Bachmann” that she was going to form an exploratory committee. Somebody on her staff has a big mouth. Maybe that is the way things are done on the House but in my opinion that reflects a lack of organizational discipline. She should be making the announcement not floating some trial balloon.

Me too. Now wouldn't Palin-Bachmann Overdrive be a dynamite duo? Wish 'We the People' could do the nominating. . . The whole Republican convention thing always seems like back room smoke and mirrors and voila' they 'announce' whom 'they' have chosen. . . kind of like the Vatican and a new Pope. Maybe we can have more input next year!
