Had an asignment editor in Texas who would drive 20 miles for a free lunch, 35 miles for dinner and 50 for cocktails and dinner.

No, I’m not kidding. It was the famous “Rick, the Wrestling Consultant” and since it was the Panhandle, 50 miles was 35 minutes!

Your post reminded me of a reporter friend of mine with the Commercial Appeal in Memphis...he would be a guest at an “open, walking around” buffet we had for several VIPs and he could hide more food in 30 minutes than most folks could eat in a week...thanks for bringing up fond memories!
