P!
Any japanese out hunting for whales??
Why not? They mostly do it in Antarctica, not around Japan, even though you can also catch a whale or two there.
whenever i see a story with a statement like “10,000 times higher than normal” yet never gives either the ‘normal’ level nor the current level... i know they are attempting to inflame passions.
at least this story has a relative location... 300m ... from the plant.
we also have this:
“If people ingest 500 milliliters of water containing the same level of radioactive iodine, the radiation levels would reach the 1 millisievert limit”
so, from this i am left to deduce the radiation level is 1 mSv 300m from the reactor (without them actually saying that.. for some reason the story is trying to have the reader envision themselves drinking the water). of course, they have deniability if the information is not accurate... since they never actually connect 1 mSv with the levels at the plant.
this is not the end of the world. this is nothing like chernobyl. as a reminder, within the vacinity of the chernobyl reactor, the radiation levels were 300,000 mSv. that’s a tad higher then this
Had to get out the dictionary! “disembogued”
...and a third of the fish in the sea die. Hmmmmmm.
330 meters from the DISCHARGE PIPE.
The Japanese diet is heavy on fish and seafood. This will be a long term problem.

It would figure the runoff from all the water they’ve been dumping on the reactors would go into the ocean.
The half life of iodine-131 is 8 days. Totally gone in 80.
The yardsticks are missing.
Again, thanks for the good work in keeping us posted from there! Most appreciated.
You are basically saying a 9mm to the head is nothing like a 12ga.
Big deal, they’re both really bad.
According to Ann Coulter, and some FReepers, radiation is actually good for you.
But yet they do not volunteer to go to the Japanese plant to help.
Thats somewhat good news although I understand that Iodine 131 goes straight to your thyroid and what it does in that 8 days is not good. Hopefully people will not eat the fish etc for a few mos. I just keep praying they get this thing shut down.
330 meters south of the plant, near the drain outlets.
Indeed, the local diets will be affected.
Most people don't know that Hiroshima's radioactivity levels dropped dramatically after a typhoon hit about 40 days after the bombing. That helped prevent a lot of radiation sickness and deaths. That rainwater went straight into the ocean too.
no.
i’m saying a hairdryer held to your head will kill you.. eventually... unlike a 9mm, which will do it now.
Wow!
A hairdryer to your head will kill you! I learn so much from FReepers like you/sarc
Is it “leaking” or is this pollution from cooling the reactor with sea water and letting the water run back into the ocean?
