I see the main purpose here as lots of easy overtime pay for the police officers.
10 or 12 cops at $40 an hour overtime for 4? hours to catch maybe one drunk is real cost-effective.

10 or 12 cops at $40 an hour overtime for 4? hours to catch maybe one drunk is real cost-effective. But a lot of the chekcpoints are paid for with federal money (all the money which the Dems say can't be cut). The fines might be pure profit for the city running the internal passport checkpoints.

The Statist’s answer to that would be to lower the DUI threshold to a BAC of .02 assuring more “bang for the buck”.

They had one near my house once and caught 42 people for various crimes, mostly driving without a license.
One guy said to me “There were so many Mexicans, I thought it was a day labor pickup point”. It seems illegals rarely have a license that matches an insurance card.
