Poll: Trump’s entry into the race would hurt Palin the most
Hotair ^ | March 23,2011 | Allahpundit

It’s weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but … Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?

Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.

Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOP’s 2012 presidential nomination.

That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent…

“Removing Trump’s name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent – essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now,” adds Holland.

That’s the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to … just six. I’m trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but it’s the most compelling explanation I can think of.

As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe there’s a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally that’s Sarah, but That Guy From “The Apprentice” out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palin’s support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. I’m skeptical of that, though, since protest votes don’t normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.

If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think he’d be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.

All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is

Listen, I actually want to win in 2012 with a conservative. Not lose with Palin or Huckabee.

If your concern has to do with a Palin-Obama debate, then you're worrying about the wrong thing.

Palin would leave him a whimpering puddle. She's good on her feet. He's not. She's genuine. He's not.

It's "presence" versus "empty suit". If her "voice" bothers you, then consider all the people who were bothered by GWB's Texas twang, Clinton's fake bonhomie, Reagan's assertiveness, Carter's soft southren drawl...shall I go on?

Even IF Cain could win the primaries and he can't, that would be a replay of Obama V Keyes

Cain is far, far superior to Keyes.

It wasn't funny and I wonder if you know what that reference is.

It was also used during the last primary season, here. Back then, there were people wishing and wishing that some GREAT CONSERVATIVE HOPE would suddenly appear and save us all from having to vote from McCain/Romney/Huckabee/just fill in the blank. That super hero never materialized and that person isn't about to this time around, either.

This next election is too important to nominate Palin.

Sorry.

We could lose our nation.

Palin has done next to nothing to prepare.

Obama got us in this disaster in Libya. A BIG mistake. We have absolutely no business intervening in Libya. NONE.

Sarah supports action in Libya. Do you think Sarah has any more knowledge about Libya than Obama does? Probably less. Does Palin (or Obama) have a clue exactly who it is we are helping in Libya?

Oh give me a freakin' break......you want her to come off like Donald Rumsfeld, now? Tons of people don't agree with him, ya know.

Hey........how about wanting her to sound like Dick Cheney? Oh, that's right, tons of people don't like him either.

Look...........she was good tonight, no matter what you claim. She was GREAT on Israel and she knew what she was talking about.

"VEEP"? You want her to be VEEP again, for one of the lesser lights who are now talked about for president? Oh yeah..............right............okay; NOT!

I'm trying to figure out why those, HERE, of all places, would be turned by sleazy Donald Trump and none of them appear to know a damned thing about him.

Because Trump talked tough about China. Should Bill Maher talk tough about China tomorrow and throw in a comment about a birth certificate, they're apt to start talking about running him for president. Deep thinkers that they are.

I trust her integrity.

The most important single thing you can say about a presidential candidate.

Character is the first issue.

Maybe it's just me but I don't like our military supporting Al Qaeda and terrorist militias.

Maybe that's too deep for Palin

Obama would destroy her in a debate.

You can't be serious.

Only an idiot would post on here that he/she would vote for Obama under ANY scenario. You are truly a piece of work. Congrats!

PS - When did Palin announce that she was running?

post 195 says in part “The only relevant fact for eligibility purposes is the place of birth, namely Honolulu, which makes him eligible, regardless of parentage.”

This person doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. Here it is explained quite well.

http://www.thebirthers.org/misc/logic.htm

Crazy as it sounds, the laws in Hawaii at the time would allow a person born out of the country to get a Hawaiian birth certificate. So unless we know what his original birth documents show, we can't know where he was born. To just state he was born in Honolulu based on a forged photoshopped short form BC obtained in 2007 is just ignorant. Search “Natural born citizen” on FR and be overwhelmed.

Not against Obama!

Cain couldn't even beat a RINO in a lousy state election and you believe that he can win the primaries, as the "VOTE FOR ME, I'M BLACK, BUT I'M NOT OBAMA, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT HOW TO WIN AND ELECTION" ?

Herman is what...65, 66? He's a black conservative, he's managed to survive two cancer bouts ( though NOT long enough to prove that it won't come back ), and he's NEVER won an elected office and PLEASE don't tell me that that doesn't matter. Nobody knows what kind of skeletons might be in his closet, because nobody knows all that much about him. The MSM will destroy him faster than you can blink once.

He seems like a nice man, I do believe, until proven otherwise, that he is a conservative, but he is NOT presidential material at all.

The first thing the lefties will do is turn him into an old, doddering "Uncle Tom". That is, of course, despicable, but it is what they do. And nobody knows how he will take that kind of abuse.

I have serious doubts about Palin after her leaving our military out to dry in Libya.

How hard is it to stick up for them?

It makes me think she is not serious and not very smart.

Yes, this election is VERY important, which is precisely WHY Palin needs to be the candidate V Obama.

Nobody else is going to beat him and she can, up it'll be an uphill battle.

Yes but there is also a minimun age(I think 35 years old but not 100% sure)also to be President. The birth certificate if the mother of all documents regarding the age.

The birth certificate is not a required document for the verification of age?

Maybe, just MAYBE, you don't understand what she said.

Hey....I'm not pleased with the Libyan mess ( not any part of it at all ), but Sarah Palin isn't responsible for it and a hypothetical, at this point, is worthless.

If you imagine that any of the others are any better, you are sorely mistaken.
