Never dealt with high pressure, have you? That's from a half teaspoon of smokeless power.
Expanding gases can be unforgiving.

You have a point. However, that damage is caused by the shock-wave from a high-speed vaporization -- you produce the same amount of vapor over a period of a second, say, and the bullet doesn't even go any distance, never mind about damaging a nice revolver.
