I agree. But the only way I've found to truly test character is see how that person performs in an executive position under stress or otherwise dealing with big problems. It goes back to experience.

I think I understand your position, and I agree that executive performance under pressure is a good recommendation.
However, I do not agree that it is the only way to evaluate character. Observing a willingness to stand up to the mob and endure their calumny is another. Another, admittedly more fallible, is one’s gut.
