Can anybody help me...

I’m trying to think back at all the wars we’ve had in history now but only as far back as Vietnam.

I could be wrong but it appears that the justification for going to Libya is the closest one in reasoning that I can remember to Vietnam War.

I may be forgetting a war where we sent troops to a place where national security really was not the issue.

I can't remember anything like this. Viet Nam at least was an attempt to stop Communism from taking over Asia (domino theory), this Libya war (oops, not war) doesn't even have a pretense of a national security issue for us.

Vietnam started out with the Gulf of Tonkin Resoluion that resulted from a North Vietnamese attack on some of our ships. We also had a defininte natinal security interest in not seeing that part of Asia turn communist.

The difference here is that Libya did nothing to attack us or challenge our vital interests. Indeed, it was pretty much the opposite in that Libya abandoned its nuclear program in 2003 after the Iraq invasion, stopped sponsaoring terrorism, and even gave us occcasional help in dealing with AQ and the MB. Thus, we have an utterly poiontless attack on a non-hostile power that's turned it into a hostile one and assured us an endless bleeding sore, much like Iraq and Afganistan.

Now is the time for right-wing operatives to start the anti-Øbongo PR whisper campaign......

(Psssst. "Wag the dog")

Even if not literally true it will serve to further unsettle his lackeys, minions, and suck-ups and put them (more) on the defensive. Now is the time.

This is a repeat of Clinton's Kosovo adventure of 1999.

That little adventure was also Hillary's doing. The KLA the Clinton's climbed into bed with were allied with al Quada.

If you haven't bothered to notice, the left started campaign Zippo to Reagan months ago, long before the so called “SPONTANIOUS” dust up in Libya started. Zippo is now just like Reagan.

Amazing how the lefts talking points always seem to fit a “SPONTANIOUS” situation months before it happens.
