Epic Fail: Fighting words between European allies overshadow Libyan mission
CNN ^

Posted on 03/23/2011 2:20:47 AM PDT by quesney

Even as British RAF Typhoons took to the skies from this southern Italian air base, there was mounting tension between allies about who should command the mission to protect civilians and enforce a no-fly zone in Libya.

After heated exchanges between NATO ambassadors in Brussels, the alliance announced Tuesday an operation to enforce the arms embargo against Libya. But it went no further on deciding if or when NATO would take command of the mission already under way, in which several allies are participating.

In a statement, NATO only said that it had plans on the table to enforce the no-fly zone "if needed."

The backdrop was a simmering feud between France and Italy that turned more cynical by the hour. Italy is demanding that NATO take a lead role in the military and political decision-making during the remainder of the Libyan mission.

But resistance within the alliance mounted even as the United States expressed its desire to take a back seat in the operation and hand over any command role to European allies. France seemed most reluctant to submit to NATO command, but Germany and Turkey also voiced objections.

This is an epic fail that pretty much destroys NATO’s reputation. Paper tiger.

Obama looks reckless, thoughtless and stupid for getting us involved in this.

He also looks absolutely callous - to throw American blood and treasure into something like this without any apparent thought or reflection on a plan.

What does he care, it isn’t his family’s blood or treasure. Our soldiers and our resources are disposable pawns for the interests and whims of other countries.

These politicians would not be throwing their own money and draft-age kids into stuff like this so recklessly. What do they care - it isn't their blood or treasure:

Outrageous!!

I blame Obama for most of this disarray. Obama dithers and tries to straddle the fence. Obama hasn’t grown into the office and now shrugs off the office.

Just Europe being Europe... Give me Poland any day of the week.

Kill Daffy, don't kill Daffy.

The White House says it's not a war...

It's already turned into a 'police action' and as for us here in the US there should have been NO action!

Obama only makes tough decisions on his NCAA picks.

I find it’s usually best to have a plan before you engage in any large scale operation with other folks.

France has always been the problem child when it came to NATO. They expected all the protections from it, but never wanted to be a part of it or contribute. Classic DeGaullist mindset. By always benefiting from the protections of NATO while not having to commit any $$$, it allowed France for all these decades to build and maintain all those pretty parks and museums, and fund is socialist utopia and cradle to grave welfare system, while having a total joke of a military.

It’s no wonder countries like France and Italy are battling over this.

More like a community disorganizer, starting with the U.S., the NATO and, it looks like eventually, the rest of the world.

One World Government: A Preview, ladies and gentlement. That’s what this boondoggle is all about. It’s going to be a blast watching the MSM squirm over Obama’s lack of leadership, lack of interst, and, uh, lack.

What’s funniest about this story is that the nations’re all probably arguing over NOT taking power. “WE don’t want to do it! It’s the United States’ job to make all the hard decisions, and then we get to blame them!” “Well, WE don’t want it because our president is afraid to take command! That would look like American imperialism! Plus there’s lots of good games on. You, hiding behind the chair, YOU do it!” “But I’m the janitor...”

The Kenyan Clown is all of that; also insisting on going on spring break during this debacle marks yet another nadir for this idiot.

Plans are worthless, but planning is essential. No plan survives first contact with the enemy.

How are we going to know when we’re done?

Meanwhile, Daffy laughs, knowing all he has to do is hang on and the coalition will fall apart. When the smoke clears, he’ll still be in power (or at worst, in exile somewhere with his millions and his hot female bodyguards), and he’ll be seen as a hero in the Arab world for exposing the weakness of the West. He’ll probably find common cause with the Muslim Brotherhood/al-Qaeda types who currently oppose him.

In the end, this dithering and fecklessness will backfire on us all. Big-time. Thanks, Zero.

This photo and caption from the Daily Mail says it all:

Floundering: Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, participate in a reception in La Moneda Palace in Santiago, Chile

One of the things that just leaves me gobsmacked is seeing Moochelle and her fat mother going on what seems like their 100th "Vacation" since squatting in the White House. These people are the lowest of the lowlifes. Meanwhile, real blood is being spilled. On top of that, we don't have a "President" in this country. We have a petty dictator.

He isn't go to leave. Not ever. For the first time, I seriously believe the 2012 election will be "cancelled" by a him under the guise of an economic, social, or military "crisis."

I wish I was over reacting, but I don't think I am.
