Jessica Rene Tatas 6,500-mile fugitive odyssey came to an end early Tuesday morning when the handcuffed daycare owner who fled to Nigeria after a fire killed four children under her watch was escorted into the Harris County Jail.
The 22-year-old Houston woman arrived about 1:15 a.m. in a convoy of Harris County sheriffs patrol cars and unmarked sport utility vehicles.
Tata, who was wearing a body armor vest, said nothing as she was taken into the jail in the middle of a crowd of investigators with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force.
Christina Garza, a sheriffs office spokeswoman, said Tata will be kept in a single person cell while at the jail.
"Thats for her safety," Garza said. "The safety of any high-profile inmate is always of concern to us."
About 35 minutes earlier Tuesday, Tata arrived at Hooks Airport, according to news accounts. She returned to U.S. soil shortly after 5 a.m. Monday when law enforcement authorities brought her to Atlanta, Ga., landing at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on a flight from Lagos International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Tata is wanted on 14 charges four charges of manslaughter, six charges of reckless injury to a child, three charges of abandoning a child under 15, and a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution - in connection with the Feb. 24 blaze at Jackie's Child Care in west Houston.

She is accused of leaving seven children unattended and oil cooking on the stove at a home-based day care at 2810 Crest Park while she shopped at a Target. She fled before being charged in the case. The three children who survived the fire were seriously injured.

Whatever, she's in Harris County Jail this morning.
Video at link, nice perp walk.
Naturally, the Houston Comical has never bothered to investigate how a 22 yr. old from Nigeria can set herself up in business keeping children with no licenses or inspections.
Was taxpayer money used to help buy the large home she was
operating from?
Houston is a third world city, and this imbecile is not the only one running loose, afflicting society with their ignorant ways of doing things.
I’m glad they caught this murderer. In case anyone here isn’t aware of this woman, she set a fire in her high school a few years back - sure seems odd that another fire would break out killing all of those babies. This one “needs killin”
I thought the day care was owned by a man in Houston? She wasn’t the owner I don’t think, just an employee.
Well, every single article I’ve seen calls her the “day care owner” - I am almost positive the news, early on, said she worked for some guy in Houston who owned other centers. Perhaps she used to work for someone else but then opened this center. Sorry about that.
That’s a gratifying perp walk if I ever saw one.
It will be nice when the facts come out about this case as well.
I’m praying for the bereft parents and for the severely injured little survivors and their families.
Please keep me on the ping list for this story.
Three years and younger? And this stupid cow left them alone? Open and shut. Just hang her now.
Once the greatest nation on earth, the US will soon be a third-world $hithole because of people like her.
Few people will talk about Tata. Those who knew her at Katy Taylor High School, where she set a fire in 2002 and was subsequently removed, speak of her as an angry bully and then ask that their names not be used.
Records show Tata received a total of $11,086.38 from the Texas Department of Agriculture, which distributes a federal grant to day care operators for food expenses. She received $5,773 from the Texas Workforce Commission in day care subsidies to working poor women. One mother said Tata charged $400 to $500 a month.
Unfortunately she is a US citizen. Ftom the artilce “Tata, a U.S. citizen born in Harris County who has relatives in Nigeria”
Yes, immediately they thought it was just an accidental fire, but quickly determined she had left those babies alone. With her background of already having set a fire in her old high school, I think this shows she is an evil person who possibly did this on purpose. Either way, leaving babies alone is enough for me to say she doesn’t deserve to live
Day care centers get all sorts of subsidies - I knew a couple who owned several and lived VERY well - way beyond what you would expect. I always wondered who they were gaming - I figured subsidies paid for their over one million dollar home too.
[nodding] It does look suspicious given what those who knew her had to say about her viciousness.
She probably learned to hide it instead of flaunting it, but psychos don’t change.
Unfortunately, it would be hard to prove that she had a motive without a confession.

Wasn’t Jessica Tata the matron on “Soap”?
Though I have done business with an honest one, paid me before I shipped him goods of course.
Sadly, you are so right - she will probably get manslaughter or something light
So true - I do have to wonder why she gave herself up though - I wonder if her Nigerian relatives were as disgusted by her as we all are?
