I find it odd that we (and we includes me!) are comfortable drinking milk from another species unless it is similar to milk from our own species!

To me, drinking human milk would be akin to cannibalism. Most societies have a strong bias against cannibalism, and there is probably a biological basis to that bias.
A mother feeding her baby probably won’t pass any disease on to the baby that she didn’t already pass on to it during the pregnancy and birth. But a stranger’s milk? Who knows what might be in it?
