In an interview last week with the Albany Times Union, New Yorks state geologist, Dr. Taury Smith, a self-described liberal Democrat, called the states natural gas deposits a huge gift. Over the last decade, the natural gas industry has been revolutionized by the rapid development of a drilling process known as hydraulic fracturing. In that time, economically recoverable reserves in the U.S. roughly doubled. New York could be among the biggest beneficiaries, as it sits upon huge deposits of gas, known as Marcellus Shale, that are now recoverable. Environmentalists, however, oppose hydraulic fracturing because they oppose all fossil fuels, and they have waged a misinformation campaign against the practice. They allege, without evidence, that it threatens to contaminate water supplies. On the basis of these unsubstantiated claims, environmentalists frightened New York lawmakers into enacting a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing. Dr. Smith dismisses the environmentalists allegations as being exaggerated, and the worst spin.
But they drive around in cars and heat their houses with natural gas.
Right. What’s the use of being an environmentalist if you can’t be a hypocrite?
NY don’t need no stinkin revenue, thought every one knew that. sarc
There have been a series of “Informational Meetings” in town after town in Western NY. If you look at who is scheduled to speak the “Information” is only from one point of view.
You have to give the progressive enemy within their due. They do not give up and attack us on so many fronts that it is impossible to win more than the occasional Truth victory.
Of course the progressive media gives them cover so we are really screwed in NYS.
What they really want is for about 90% (or maybe 99%) of the human race to die off. Some of them actually admit this, although they are only rarely caught on the record. Most keep it to themselves.
Isaac Asimov's second I Robot story, The Naked Sun, is about a murder that takes place on Solaria, a beautiful, Earth-like planet that has been colonized by humans. It's population is held at 20,000 people, with (if memory serves) 200 million robots to do all the work.
Mainly SUVs.
That gas isn't going anywhere. It'll still be there when this crop of Luddites goes the way of their predecessors.
OK kiddies(not FR), one more time. Fracking has been around for 65+ years. What has led to success in the shale drilling in the last 10 years is the technological improvements in directional drilling.
For instance, being able to drill down vertically 10,000 feet, making a 90 degree turn and drilling sideways for 20,000 feet, hitting a ‘target’ that is 10 feet square.
OH Tom I so wished you were right but the progressive (AKA Marxist) cancer has taken over the body politic in NYS.
At best we have the occasional RINO. A true conservative in NYS is as rare as a loyal American citizen in the bHo administration.
It's just farking alarmism!
Eventually they run out of other people's money. It has to happen.
LOL. You wouldn't think so with so many people and jobs fleeing the state. But while we're losing 2 House seats, we're up 50,000+ state workers, so we really could use the money...
