Quite fitting for a Democrat named Obama to start a war for democracy.

Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance. - H. L. Mencken

And people keep throwing Lockerbie out there. As if we’re supposed to believe that the man who personally lobbied for the release of al-Megrahi mere months ago is now the great avenger of Pan Am 103.

Oh how terrible. People keep throwing the murder of 189 Americans at Lockerbie out there.

Perhaps you're missing the point.

Just because one wants Gaddafi removed because of Lockerbie, it doesn't mean that one thinks that Obama and the UN want Gadaffi removed for the same reason.

In fact, I don't think that Obama wants Gaddafi removed at all.

I know the Brits want him gone. And I hope they get their way.

I don’t think your criticism is fair. There are plenty of people who question why we are meddling in Libya when we refused to support the opposition in Iran and publically called for the resignation of a long-term ally in Egypt.

I am a rather aggressive vet and I am really questioning what we are doing in Egypt. On top of that, I was due to fly home on Pan Am Flight 103 from visiting my folks when I was in college (Army brat) a couple of weeks after it was destroyed over Scotland. I flew home on a different flight number but it was a rather uncomfortable experience. I would love to see Colonel Quack pay a price for that act of terrorism and was outraged by the release of the murderer.

However, this whole operation in Libya has me stumped. We are going to be killing one group so another group (that may like us even less) can take power and the reasoning seems pretty muddled at best. This was the will of the UN and our soldiers are already taxed trying to reshape a society built on 1000 year old tribal feudalism into a modern democracy and rebuilding another craphole that was ruled with an iron fist after we demolished the infrastructure with “shock and awe” and placed in power a corrupt new government.

Sorry, I ain’t no hippy but color me skeptical too. The reasoning that took us into Afghanistan and Iraq was miles ahead of this..... Never forget, Bush I encouraged the people of Iraq to rise up against the “brutal” dictator Saddam and we promptly abandoned them to their fate. By my count so far, Obama has gotten almost every major foreign policy decision wrong.

If we are so concerned about loss of innocent life why did we not intervene in other horrific events like Darfur? If the French, UN, and British are so anxious to get into Libya let them do it! Everytime NATO gets involved in anything America does the heavy lifting (and funding). Trust me, I know!

“I’m against this. Let them kill each other - the more, the better.”

OK, but typically when we go into places like this even more people get whacked. So, there is that.

Please forgive my cantankerousness. I guess I’m just getting war weary. Too many relatives and friends over there getting shot at.

I am against tyrants, too, but I’m also against losing our young men and wasting precious resources. The people of Libya hate us and would just as soon behead every last one of us. I’d rather we leave them alone and let them kill each other. The French are useless, too, so why are we helping them preserve their oil supply? Do you think for one minute they’d help us? They never have. I’d rather help the Brits develop new oil resources, such as drilling here and shipping it to them cheaply, along with the Canadians.

We get less than one-half of 1% of Libyan oil.

This wasn't just a bad guy...or just the son of Gaddafi...this was a military leader of Gaddafi's special forces I understand. Put in that perspective...well good riddance all the more. He has met his maker and that isn't going to be a welcome, shall I say.

All I’m saying if there is any hope of Democracy in Libya, you are first going to have to fight Kadaffy, and then fight Al-Qaeda, it will be no different than Iraq. And even Iraq now isn’t in great shape after all that.

Anyone who believes otherwise, is delusional.

Gaddafi has been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood around the globe for years.

THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AND GADDAFI WERE PARTNERS NOT TOO LONG AGO

“I’ve had enough war to last me a lifetime.”

Well sure, we all have. OTOH, if you won’t defend your land, you don’t deserve to have it - I’m sure that’s in the Bible somewhere. Pacifists are good only for washing dirty skivvies of soldiers who are killing aggressors.
