CAIRO - The Arab League on Sunday criticized Western military strikes on Libya, a week after urging the United Nations to slap a no-fly zone on the oil-rich North African state.
"What has happened in Libya differs from the goal of imposing a no-fly zone and what we want is the protection of civilians and not bombing other civilians," Arab League secretary general Amr Mussa told reporters.
On March 12, the Arab League urged the United Nations to impose a no-fly zone on Libya and said Moammar Gadhafis regime had "lost legitimacy" as it sought to snuff out a rebellion designed to oust him from power.

So much for our steadfast Arab allies.
Dang those pesky anti-aircraft batteries!
Here we go! Buckle up kids!
I wonder how Hillary feels this morning after having the rug pulled out from under her (again).
I find it hard to answer back with, "this ain't no friggin' Wal-Mart," ass hats," or some such, but this action, based on UN rather than congressional sanction, is too flimsy a thing to fit my own understanding of the rule of law in a constitutional republic.
The Republican who can give voice to this earns points in the presidential brackets (God help us) during 2012 March Madness.
Who’s on first in Arab League?
Iran, Syria....?
THIS, is what it was all really about. Get us lobbin’ the bombs for them. Then protest the fact that we are.
They are smart and we are not so smart.
John Kerry is in the middle east?
Daffy is a secular guy. Yet, he used word Crusaders to describe attackers. And it played well with Arab street. So much that Arab League is big trouble now and tries to backpedal.
As oddly as it sound, Daffy was the best American ally over there.
Bomb the $25 tent with half a billlion cruise.
......aaaand there will be piece!
Who couldnt see this coming?
They were for it before they were against it.
No wonder democrats get along so well with them.
What a can of worms we have opened. They are right. They wanted a "no-fly zone", but they didn't expect, and neither did I, that it would include a carpet bombing zone and the launching of hundreds of missiles.
We are not merely engaged in the shooting down of fighter jets, we are engaged in the wholesale slaughter of the entire Libyan army on the ground. And without a formal declaration of war or even the authorization of Congress.
The Arab League asked for a “No fly zone”. That would be a pretty clear objective for most intellects. What they have now escalating is an International Mob participating in a game of “shooting fish in a barrel.”
Meanwhile, excluding McMouthpiece McCain and Linda Graham, Congress has been largely bypassed by the “Emperor of the United States” who is now off campaigning to be “Emperor of the World.”
Obama feigns concern for the citizens of Libya while feeding American citizens of the border states to foreign invaders and the drug cartels.
I wonder if the United States of America will ever again have a President.
How long before someone writes a speech and puts it on the teleprompter so obama can say this is not what he agreed to?
That is what I figured, too. I don’t like that we are involved in Libya, but the SAM sites had to be taken down. Well, we probably could have used F-22s without worrying about the SAM sites, but that would show how great they are and would go against Obama and McCain’s they are not needed mantra.
HA HA HA HA HA HA
the Arab League is a propoganda organization. Who didn’t see this coming?
They want the rebels to win without Western infidels bombing Muslims. They try to pacify their militants by criticizing the West over inevitable Muslim casualties.
The West should have stayed out and told Egypt, Saudi and the rest of the Arab League "you have air forces, YOU enforce a no-fly zone".
the commies and the Moslems agree.
