We’ve committed $20 billion to Egypt with no idea who the next government will be. Is this any different? Rest assured we will be offering the Libyan rebels aid as well with no idea who they are.

It appears we are in agreement.
If it were our job to topple dictators, it seems like Iran should have been next. After all, we have military operations and bases already close by, the people have been asking for our help for a long time now and for some reason we ignore them.
This tells me that we are bombing Libya for some other reason other than what we're being told. Perhaps Gadaffi knows something about foreign campaign money? Perhaps Obama felt demeaned being called "son" by Gadaffi. But this is in no way nothing to do with national security.
But it has to do with national security now. We cannot stop this until Gadaffi's dead, his government toppled, and we baby-sit Libya until the vacuum is filled. Short of that? It will be a national security issue that was not an issue until the bombing started last night.
