Tata reportedly surrendered to authorities
Houston Chronicle ^ | March 19, 2011 | MIKE MORRIS

A woman who fled to Nigeria after a fire at her west Houston day care killed four children last month has surrendered to authorities, her brother said Saturday.

Jessica Tata faces 14 charges, including four counts of manslaughter, in connection with the Feb. 24 blaze at Jackie's Child Care. Officials have said that Tata, 22, left seven children unattended and oil cooking on the stove while she shopped at Target. She fled to Nigeria before being charged.

Her brother, Ron Tata, 26, said she turned herself in around 11 a.m. Saturday. According to his relatives in Nigeria, workers at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos traveled to Port Harcourt to take her into custody, he said.

"She planned to do it a couple days ago, and they came over to pick her up after she called them and said she wanted to turn herself in, basically," Ron Tata said. Details still sketchy

Officials at the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Embassy in Abuja would not confirm Ron Tata's report.

Jeff Carter, chief spokesman for the U.S. Marshals in Washington, D.C., said Tata was not in the marshals' custody; he did not know whether she was in the custody of another government agency.

An authority close to the investigation did confirm that Tata had turned herself in but would not provide any details.

Ron Tata said he wasn't sure when his sister might be brought back to the United States.

"She just feels bad about the whole situation; she just wants to bring it to an end," her brother said.

She kills four little kids, injures a few more and now she "feels bad" about it.

She feels bad because she was appended. Mexican killers have no problem getting lost in Mexico. I guess she disgusted her family too much so they ratted her out. Now the American taxpayers get to shell out millions to try and incarcerate this foreign born half-wit who was probably  drugged out

From the title I thought another automobile manufacturer had been nationalized.

(But the Indians are smarter than that, aren’t they?)

I've not seen one tear from the videos I've seen of her at the scene after she returned from shopping to find fire trucks and the media at her home.

I've seen zero remorse.

I know ABC-13 sent a reporter to Nigeria to try to track her down.

I wonder if that had any influence in her decision.

I even wonder if the Justice Dept was interested and/or involved at all?

Nigerians have everyone's SS#. So it does not matter.

You said it yourself, “halfwit”. The woman is probably just plain stupid. You can’t fix stupid.

I don’t know what the answer to this type of thing is. I hate the idea of more government regulation of day care workers, partly because their idea of regulation is unionization (which they are doing under the SEIU).

You have to wonder about the people who left their kids with this woman. Didn’t they have a clue about how irresponsible she was?

If you turn your kids over to a Nigerian immigrant, you deserve what you get.

"...she just wants to bring it to an end..."

This isn't going to end for her for a very long time, and there is a large group of parents who would like to see "the end" of her.

She’s even got local “activist” Quanell X and queen Sheila Jackson Lee mad at her.

Her main trouble is that here in Texas we tend to liquidate such cases with happy regularity.

Is there any follow-up about her location, and will Texas be able to get extradition?

Local news was yapping about it this morning, some details are unknown.

Some legal types have speculated she may arrive back Tuesday.

Then we get to pay for her lawyers and upkeep for maybe ten years before she gets a chemical Zot.

We do have a pretty good record at Zotting such folks though.

Good. Those dead and injured babies and their bereft parents will see justice.

God bless Texas.

She was landed in Georgia this morning and is expected here tomorrow.

She will be housed in County jail and legal proceedings will begin.

Looking at the wanted poster above, it says she was born in Texas.

Thanks so much for the good news.

Do you have a link where I can follow the proceedings, or are you going to keep updating your thread?
