Accompanied by a small bipartisan band of House lawmakers, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) arrived in Italy Friday to visit with U.S. troops amid the ongoing political uprising in nearby Libya.
The excursion — Pelosi's first official trip abroad this year — comes a day after the United Nations passed a resolution allowing a no-fly zone over Libya and authorizing the international community to take "all necessary measures" to protect Libyan civilians.
Italy has lobbied other countries for help to deal with the refugee crisis as Libyans flee their homeland amid the violence. The Libyan government called for an "immediate ceasefire" after the passage of the U.N. resolution
Pelosi on Friday hailed the U.N. resolution as "a clear signal" to Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi that "the violence against your own citizens must end and the Libyan people must be free to choose their own destiny, free from intimidation."

America. He knew the Vikings were here 500 years before his voyages and the they explored the eastern coast of North America - (They had winter quarters on Cape Cod and attempted to establish a community up the Hudson, but abandoned it after a fierce winter.
Columbus married into a wealthy family of cartographers...and had access to maps that showed the continents.
And 100 years before Columbus sailed, Sir Henry Sinclair sailed from the Orkneys in Scotland to Nova Scotia - with over a dozen of his own ships and families - he ALREADY owned land there. (Nova Scotia means New Scotland.)
Then there the famous Zeno Brothers navigators - and their famous maps.
Columbus never set out to discover a new continent - He knew north and south America were here - his goal was to sail BETWEEN them to establish a back route to India - for the wealth of the spice trade. (They DIDN'T know there was CENTRAL America in the way...and no Panama Canal ;o)...)
When he first hit the islands and found the natives, he thought he at first thought he'd reached the backside of India and called them - “Indians.”
He made three voyages, slaughtered whole tribes on natives, enslaved what he could and set about to set himself up as ruler. He was hauled back to Spain in chains by order of the Queen.
And yet, the myth is still taught in the schools and spewed forth by dumb a*ses like peelface of a hero discoverer of America.

The only Republican to attend was Mica of Florida. That old gasbag should have been dumped years ago. To legitimize a trip that allows Pelosi to pick up scarves at bargain prices is obscene.
