Washington's local NBC affiliate reports:

D.C. police confirmed that a substance ingested by students at a northwest D.C. elementary school was cocaine, according to D.C. Public Schools.

[SNIP]

Here's The Post's Jay Matthews in November 2008, urging the first couple to consider sending the kids to public school:

Why not see what their tax dollars are paying for? One educational gem happens to be the closest public school to their new home.

[SNIP]

Sixty-nine percent of Thomson's 355 students are from low-income families. Forty percent are Hispanic, 34 percent black, 22 percent Asian American and 5 percent white. That demographic mix often means remedial instruction and little enrichment, but parents say the school offers a feast of music, art and foreign languages as good as what they would find in a private school. ...

Yup, if only five percent of the students are white, then you know there's got to be a lot of stupid, remedial kids there... I mean, they're browns... dusky hued.

Such blatent racism ought to be shocking, but it's just what we've all come to expect from libs and their mouth pieces like the WaPo.

A beautiful piece of bigotry, Jay Matthews. You don't fail to disappoint.

Yeah, I mean that’s a bit like Sarah Palin telling Obama he needs to bomb Libya - taking advantage of an opening to attack them, although it’s Not good policy.

But even though what he says shouldn’t be true, and we don’t want it to be true, isn’t it true?

And of course, no children at Sidwell Friends have ever used or sold drugs in their school.

I think it's more true of kids who go to public school.

I send my kids to Parochial school, and there are plenty of black, latino, asian kids there that do every bit as well as any of the other kids.

On the other hand a fair amount of the blue collar folks I work with and know will send their kids to the public schools, and their kids are pretty much illiterate animals, regardless of color.

Now, this is the inner city, so suburban/rural results may vary, but the school in the article is, of course, urban as well.

Well, at least not the kind that make kids sick. They only get the best.

Well, by his own admission in his book, Barry likes the nose candy. Maybe that factored into the WaPo’s recommendation.

Wasn’t albore’s son expelled for ‘selling’?

From what I have personally seen, the more money available the more drugs are purchased by students, private school kids too.

"a feast of music, art and foreign languages "

Which is great stuff for school if you can live the lounging lifestyle of the idle rich.

Wouldn't it be better to have a rich feast of math, science, and technical skills?

Well, well, well. I attended first grade at that school back in the early fifties and the only nose candy I ever saw was when fat Marty stuck green salt water taffy up his nose pretending it was huge boogerie.

Times sure have changed. ;>)

Sounds like a great time to be alive. I was born in 81’ so maybe it's just nostalgia but I think I would have loved to grow up in the 50’s.

Exposing elementary school kids to any form of stimulant drug seems to be like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Oh, I couldn't disagree more. The rich in this country generally work VERY hard. Our idle class is composed of the welfare queens and dukes of entitlements.

They'll have plenty of time to enjoy sophisticated entertainments and foreign languages be they lounging in tax-payer supported public housing or relaxing in a prison cell.

Well I did say the “idle” rich. I wasn't talking about the rich in general, nor suggesting that they aren't productive. On the other hand there is a class of “idle” rich that isn't productive but lives off inheritances. But at any rate my comment wasn't about the rich, it was about what constitutes a “rich feast” educationally.
