Ariz. Senate rejects illegal immigration bills (GOP Caves To Chamber of Commerce Again)

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Senate soundly defeated five bills aimed at illegal immigration on Thursday in a marked departure from last year, when enactment of a tough local enforcement measure put the state at the heart of a fierce national debate over the issue.

Majority Republicans were split in their votes on the defeated bills, which included two measures intended to force a U.S. Supreme Court ruling against automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants. The other three dealt with health care, public services and everyday activities such as driving.

With business leaders urging lawmakers to put the issue aside to avoid damaging the still-ailing economy, "it's time for us to take a timeout," said Republican Sen. John McComish of Phoenix. "It's something that the people don't want us to be focusing on."

Critics also said the bills rejected Thursday were over-reaching and flawed.

Supporters of the measures voiced frustration and said there could be political fallout for lawmakers who voted against them.

"The lack of political courage" is the only impediment to step up pressure on illegal immigration, said Republican Sen. Russell Pearce, the sponsor of the 2010 law. . .

It's official: the Cheap Labor Lobby still controls the Republican Party. The GOP lied again in 2010 about passing tough new immigration laws at the state level in order to retake the majority.

In Arizona, Utah, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota, and New Hampshire, Republicans have already killed Arizona-style immigration laws this year. The only thing the Republican Party has delivered to its base on immigration ... is a cheap labor guest worker program in Utah.

Well, I am done with the Republican Party, and this time for good. Conservatives will never get anywhere with the Republican Party so long as big business calls the shots.

Yes, McCainiacs are in charge of the GOP and always will be. Watch THE MYTH in 2012. Actually though the “little man” is too uninformed to organize into an effective third party. Mostly, our Republican primary voters just rubberstamp whoever is in office, as we will see with Orrin G. Hatch and Lugar in 2012.

Politicians really don’t give a **** about Americans anymore. Their #1 priority now are the illegal aliens. I’ve got some bad news for the GOP buffoons. You will NEVER get their votes unless you are prepared to make America their Big Pinata.

60 CEOs tell the Arizona GOP to jump. They only ask how high.

It really clarifies matters.

It’s not “cheap labor” but more like “slave labor”. We should be dragging those people out in the street and holding kangaroo courts ~ America has no room for slavery or slavers.

I'm glad that you finally recognize that this is truly the corrupt "Two-Party Cartel". They all are bought & paid for by the elites. They will undo this nation. Hope is gone - reality is what it is.

I never voted Republican until 2010.

I was one of the many Independent voters who hated George W. Bush, but who was fooled into believing that 2006 and 2008 had taught the GOP a lesson and that the Tea Party had changed things.

Arizona seemed to be proof that it was possible to work through the GOP to change our immigration system.

Arizona and Utah have since revealed the truth. Business Republicans like Jeb Bush and Arlen Specter are still firmly in control of the Republican Party.

Undoubtedly, the GOP will nominate some worthless doughface politician like Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich in 2012, which will so demoralize conservatives that Obama will be reelected in 2012.

Say what you want about the Democrats, but at least they ALWAYS represent the views of their pro-amnesty base on immigration.

Find out who the businesses are and take them down. Lawsuits, RICO filings, reporting illegals all should start to have an economic effect on them.

Take them down.

Conservatives have to learn that large corporate interests are not always our friends.

Large corporate interests are behind globalism, catering to Islam, supporting illegal aliens, moving American jobs and the money they generate overseas, contributing to liberal candidates for office, etc.

They are also behind bilingualism and multiculturalism. They were there with their hands out for tax payer dollar bail-outs when they screwed up their operations. Unlike mom and pop businesses which they have just about driven out of sight, they feel they need not be allowed to face the consequences of poor business decisions they have made as they “are too large to allow to fail”.

We need to strengthen and support free enterprise and capitalism, but we also need to identify and target those interests which are detrimental to our Republican form of government.

Watch THE MYTH in 2012.

I will. And if he's the nominee, that's exactly what I'll be doing in the Presidential election. Watching.

My friend, State Senator Ron Gould, was a sponsor of the 14th amendment bill and some of these others. I’m going to be speaking with him tomorrow. I’ll find out what really went down. He does not mince words.
