Japan radiation fears spark panic in Russia's Far East

VLADIVOSTOK - RESIDENTS of Russia's Far East on Wednesday stocked up on iodine and nervously checked radiation levels despite official reassurances there was no danger from Japan's quake-damaged nuclear plant just 1,000km to the east.

Russia's emergencies ministry said that radiation levels remained normal and stressed that there was no risk for human health and that no danger from radiation was expected but many were not convinced.

In the regional capital Vladivostok, which is no more than 1,000km west of the Fukushima nuclear plant, pharmacies were sold-out of iodine, dosimeters - instruments that measure the amount of radiation - flew off the shelves and people bought tickets to Moscow.

I wouldn’t trust authorities either, if I was a short distance across the water from Japan (in any direction).

But don’t the Russians have the prevailing winds on their side, generally speaking?

the NK people probably won’t know about much of this for years, if at all. They’d glow long before they know.

Fear and Panic was the biggest killer of people from the Chernobyl event, not radiation. It was not a disaster. Number of people killed at Chernobyl, 30. Number of people killed at TMI, 0.

Number of people killed in Japan so far 0. Chance of death or illness in the U.S. from Japan event, regardless of what happens there, 0.

This is all hype upon hype. Driven by the MSM including Fox.

THERE IS NO DANGER as long as you don’t go have a picnic at one of the damaged reactors.

Think about it. Hiroshima & Nagasaki are huge thriving metropolises today.

No increases in cancers or birth defects in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, or from Chernobyl. In fact many studies show just the opposite, that exposure to high doses of radiation have actually REDUCED (prevented) cancers in those populations.
