Your social security number only shows up if you were collecting social security before you died.

That may not be completely accurate. A friend died in 2001, never lived to collect Social Security but is listed in the database. Another, however, is not.

First of heard of that, but then I shouldn’t pretend to be an expeert! :-) I do genealogical research as part of my job. I’ll have to make sure to check the Soc Sec database even if they never collected.

I wonder if your friend had started the application process? Maybe that’s why he/she was on there?
