Tangentially related to this story I wanted to post the the "birther" bills update. Thirteen states have tried, most have fails but a few are still in committee.

If you're in one of those states with bills requiring presidential eligibility proof on file still alive in their legislatures, I encourage you to write, call, email your state representatives.

The Connecticut bill is weak at best. It doesn't take into account not all states necessarily have the same definition of "original birth certificate". For example, the state of Hawaii defines a birth certificate as either a Certificate of Live Birth(original birth certificate) or a Certification of Live Birth(COLB). The former is the long form birth certificate providing more detail for genealogy purposes. The latter is a short form document containing less information. The state of Hawaii website http://hawaii.gov/dhhl/applicants/appforms/applyhhl explains the details of both. An example of the COLB issued by the state of Hawaii is a copy of Barack Obama's COLB http://www.theobamafile.com/_images/ObamaBirthCertificate.jpg. Note, it does not include the hospital where the person was born nor the signature of the attending physician. Other states may have similar laws. The state of Hawaii no longer issues copies of the original birth certificate, Certificate of Live Birth. Instead Hawaii only issues copies of the short form COLB. More importantly the state of Hawaii issues COLB's to foreign born children.

SB391 also does not define "natural born citizen" as a person born in the U.S. to parents who are American citizens.

Question: What are the arguments used in opposing this legislation??

In this free-wheeling , mobile, anything goes society it seems to me to be a clear need.

It will only take one of these state bills to pass if it comes into effect before the filing date of that state’s presidential primary.

I suspect if this becomes the case, then BHO will either find a convenient excuse to not run in 2012 or his supporters will attempt to raise a giant crap-storm in an attempt to intimidate that state into giving him a pass or otherwise nullifying the law.

On the subject of BHO as President, while I have not seen definitive proof that he is a US citizen, I will accept that he is. However, based on what has circulated in public so far, including BHO’s own statements, it is clear that one of his parents was not a US citizen, but was a citizen of Kenya. Thus, according to the law and court precedents in effect at the time, he cannot be considered “natural born”.

While this makes him ineligible to hold office, I have a far greater concern over the actions of the federal judiciary. They have shown to me that an institutional bias exists against allowing any case pertaining to BHO’s status to move to discovery, and thus to where third parties such as the Immigration Service, the Selective Service, the IRS, and various colleges BHO attended could be compelled to produce all records they have on BHO. Our judiciary has been corrupted by their own political and career concerns, yet one more aspect of the Cancer of Creeping Socialism.

Great list. Thanks for posting it. Bottom line is, all the bills will die. Zero will never have to prove his citizenship.

As I see it, it looks more and more like cowardly state elected officials are not going to pass any type of presidential eligibility law before the 2012 presidential campaign.

How about this idea: Republican candidates VOLUNTARILY attach a copy of their long form birth certificate to their state application form, even though they are not required to do so by state law.

As far as I know, there is no state law that prohibits a presidential candidate from VOLUNTARILY attaching a copy of his long form birth certificate to his application form in 2012 if he wants to.

What are state election officials going to say: "I'm sorry but you are not allowed to attach a copy of your long form birth certificate to your 2012 presidential application form"? All hell would break loose once the public learned that a presidential candidate was stopped by state officials from attaching his long form birth certificate to his application form.

So I hope that possible Republican candidates like Romney, Gingrich, and Bachmann display their leadership skills by VOLUNTARILY attaching their long form birth certificates to their application forms for all to see and examine, because, at the very least, we will find out for sure if they were ever adopted by a citizen of another country at some point in their lives.
