If the Libyan dictator survives, he is not likely to resume being the benign Gaddafi of recent years, who handed over his weapons of mass destruction, renounced terrorism and made nice with the West. More likely, he will be the brutal Gaddafi of old the state sponsor of terror who blew up Pan Am 103 over Scotland, killing 270 people; destroyed a French passenger jet over Niger, killing 171 people; bombed the La Belle discotheque in West Berlin, killing two U.S. soldiers and injuring more than 50 American servicemen; established terrorist training camps on Libyan soil; provided terrorists with arms and safe haven; and plotted to kill leaders in Saudi Arabia, Chad, Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia and Zaire. If he succeeds in putting down the rebellion, Gaddafi would probably emerge angry and emboldened a dangerous combination.
If Gaddafi survives, he would almost certainly put a halt to the destruction of his programs to develop weapons of mass destruction, begun during the Bush administration....
If Gaddafi survives, his regime will probably not achieve a decisive victory. That means a stalemate in which eastern Libya could become a lawless, ungoverned area. Moderate rebel leaders who pleaded to the West for help but failed to secure it could be pushed aside by radical elements....
The United States helped the contras remove the Sandinista regime from Nicaragua and helped Afghans drive out the mighty Soviet Red Army, without sending ground forces. We can help the Libyan rebels drive Gaddafi out without sending the Marines to the shores of Tripoli.

IF ???
Does it matter?
Only to the people and to the families he masacres I suppose. Oh, and probably to all the people who will be taken away in the middle of the night and tortured if he regains control. Other than that; no, probably doesn’t matter a bit.
Ideally, neither side will win for a very long time.
muslims killing muslims, so we don’t have to.
If the US were to have done anything meaningful in Libya, we should have done it weeks ago.
Premier Hussein is still voting “present” while Libyan resistance is systematically exterminated. It’s shameful to witness and is a stain on our Nation.
But by all means keep out of Libya, because the inmates are running the asylum, both in DC and in Tripoli, and they will only put our troops at risk.
What happened to all the “Gates of Hell is going to open” talk?
0 finally came out of hiding long enough to SAY Qaddafi had to go (but failed to show any leadership in making that happen).
Once again The One picks the wrong team.
I disagree, his successor will most likely resurrect those programs.........Gaddafi was properly slapped down and knew his place. Should he survive this uprising, he'll still know his place and life will continue on.........
So for those folks hoping for the overthrow of Gaddafi, be careful of what you wish for......... Libya is what it is and in the grand scheme of things, nobody gives a rat's ass about Libya's human rights violations just so long as they do not pose a threat to this country.........
Guess this proves the first rule of war in the USA according to the MSM: War is only "cool" when a Democrat starts or continues it. Prime examples include interventions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Somalia, and now, Libya.
Exactly, the corrupt MSM is covering for Obama.
Sure! Nothing matters. The earthquake in Japan doesn’t even REALLY matter. Not to 18-hole, Barak “Shooter” Obama!
So what if Obama is totally disengaged and the whole world is falling apart. Nothing he can do. So it just doesn’t matter. Ha, ha nothing matters!
Radical muslims killing other radical muslims, what’s the down side for us?
Is he the one who has Bambi’s BC?
Exactly! I feel our troops would be more at risk now than they would have been weeks ago. And even then there was risk.
Perhaps, Obama knows this and knows it's too late to do anything that could topple his fundraiser in North Africa. Maybe he's feeling more relieved now.
So for those folks hoping for the overthrow of Gaddafi, be careful of what you wish for
You are correct! Also Libya was one of those "unnamed" countries in the War On Terror. having been a victim of Al Qaeda himself, Gadaffi has had good reason to join and assist the US in the War against Al Qaeda. They've tried to kill him several times.
No, Gadaffi is not a model of democracy and freedom. Very far from it. But worst people and entities could be in control there. I did disagree with his status in the UN. That was a joke.
I don’t care who rules any Arab animals.
