2 drops on 3 and one on 4.
They’ll probably pause to access effect.
Shepherdess Smith reporting live on Fox that there are helicopters (plural, he said) dumping water over the plant now. Maybe so.
Watching the helos dropping water on the reactors. Futile to say the least. Most of the water dissipates in the air. They are dropping it from a very distant height.
Is there any substance that could be formed into a foam that could be doused over the plant, similar to fire suppression foam?
Thanks for the link! Watching it now.
They were required by law to evacuate, now their dose rate has been raised from 100 mS (per hour? news article didn’t specify) to 250 mS. It’s still under the 400 mS/hr measurement made yesterday outside reactor 3, but I have heard of no new evacuations.
Boron serves to lessen and block the nuclear reaction. It's basically a shield of sorts to neutron passage.
11 water cannon trucks en route. NHK
What a beautiful sight! I’m in tears.
The boron-10 atomic nucleus absorbs thermal neutrons well. Those are the neutrons that trigger atomic fusion in the uranium fuel.
Course a lot would get blown around cause of their rotors so maybe I shouldn't complain ;)
It’s a beautiful sight to see 95% of the water miss the target?
NHK: Chinooks have been specially modified to give pilots more than usual level of radiation protection
